Hello Close Families!
My name is Michele Herbon and I live in Ohio. I have a hobby of collecting vintage photos and "papers" of all kinds and then trying to trace some type of kin folk to them to send them back free of charge.
Today I got an old "Snapshots" baby scrapbook. Inside it holds the actual birth certificate for a Mary Ann Close as the certificate states. The book itself has written on the inside cover "Marianne Close 2-3-56". So I'm not sure what the real spelling would be. It states she was born in Philadelphia College of Osteopathy North Center Hospital Philadelphia Pennsylvania at 9:45PM on the 3rd day of February, 1956.
Inside there are lots of photos of her as a baby and her mom. But I do not see a father and there is no mention of him. Her mom is actually sitting at a table that looks like it could be the hospital with a lit cigeratte in her hand. Under one photo it reads "Marianne 7 days old. Nana's house, 5142 Arbor St.
Another photo has "Marianne's christening, March 4, 1956. St Ambros R.C. Church. God Mother Aunt Marge Gilden?, God Father Uncle Art Beaurich?
Other names mentioned: Cousin Susie, Great Aunts Mich? and Manie, Ralph Campbell, Maryellen Charlton, Nana Close, Al Keenan, Patsy Hird? Aunt Flossie, Aunt Marjorie, Aunt Dewey. One photo on the back is written in childish handwriting and says "Dolores Ann, Sheryl Ann, and Rose Mary Ann.
If this sounds like you might be related or would care to see a few photos, please email me at frozenglue(a)yahoo.com as I will be leaving this group upon posting this.
Thanks!

What I have been told (and do not have any certification of) is that this Reuben
(1743-1826)was born in Scotland. He married a "D" (1742-1826) who is believed
to have been Native Indian (not certified either). Both died in Tioga Co., PA
and are buried in the Old Carpentry/Academy Corners Cemetery in Deerfield
Township, Tioga Co., PA. I have been there and seen their gravestones as well
as their son, Newbury, Esther & Patty Cloos' gravestones. We have a Cloos/Close
reunion each August that has been held at Cowanesque Lake near Lawrenceville, PA
since the year 2000. There is a Newbury Cloos farm, a David Close house, an Old
Cloos Burying Grounds, a few stones left of the foundation of the Close School
as well as there was at one time, a Close District. Newbury & Esther Cloos had
11 children that were raised in Tioga Co., PA. Have you found any connection to
any of this with your files? Thank you.
Sally

I do not have a Smith Close in my list of Rueben's children nor anyone born in 1814. But I do not claim that my list is complete.
If you can provide an email address I can send you more details that may help to establish a fit.
Email me at aclose(a)shaw.ca

YES, we do have a fit. Of those 14 children, is there one named Smith? He was born in 1814 in New York, not sure where but he lived in Ulysses, NY. Smith was my G-G-G-Grandfather and I've been searching for his parents for years. I hope you have something on him.

Sorry, it doesn't look like it. My Reuben (born abt 1813) married Elizabeth Marshall. They had 7 children, the oldest two in New York the rest in Michigan. Still looking for that New York connection.
