Catherine,
I am glad you have started a DNA project for the CLOSE surname. I hope you
are able to get a lot of participants. Please post the particulars online,
so others will know how to get their DNA included and how easy it is to
participate.
DNA test results show DNA Markers for a descedant of my ancestor, Jacob
CLOSE of Nelson County, Kentucky, are an exact 25 marker match to those DNA
markers of a descendant of Peter CLOSE I (born abt 1779 VA) (Peter was
married to Rebecca McMURLAND of PA). The father of Peter CLOSE I is said to
have been John CLOSE of Ireland or Germany. I would be very interested to
learn if our CLOSE markers match those of descendants of George CLOSE of
Nelson County, later Hardin County, Kentucky.
My ancestor, Jacob CLOSE, said to be of North Carolina, was in the same area
of Kentucky at the same time as your George CLOSE:
TAXLIST: NELSON COUNTY TITHES 1785-1791, NELSON CO., KY

Nelson County Tithe:

Nelson County, Kentucky:
Jacob Close
Thomas Brown
John Helm
Lender
Fredrich Geiger/Giger
Van Meter
In a letter to John CLOSE, Elisabeth "Betsy" WELLS wrote that John HELM sent
his compliments.
The above named, Fredrich GEIGER/GIGER, was the father of Mary "Polly"
GEIGER/GIGER, who was 2nd wife of William WELLS. The marriage of Mary
"Polly" GEIGER/GIGER, widow of William WELLS, and her marriage to Robert
TURNER of Louisville, is noted in a letter from Elisabeth "Betsy" WELLS, to
John CLOSE. John CLOSE, of Nelson County, Kentucky, was a son of Jacob CLOSE
and Joanna FARROW.
1793 Nelson County Tax Tithe shows:
Joannah CLOSE with 3 cattle - no white males or blacks or land.
Also in Nelson Co., KY
James Hendrix married Polly Mills. Surety, Jacob CLOSS/CLOSSE [CLOSE]. June
2, 1787.
Ethelbert MILLS married Anna WELLS. Surety, James HARDIN. June 2, 1787. Anna
WELLS was a sister of Elisabeth "Betsy" WELLS. James HARDIN was married to
Margaret "Peggy" WELLS. Margaret "Peggy" WELLS was also a sister of
Elisabeth "Betsy" WELLS.
Please give us more information on how to participate in your CLOSE DNA
project.

Subject: [CLOSE] Close Surname
I'm new to the list and wanted to introduce myself. I am a Close and
believe I am descended from a George Close born about 1745 unknown location
and died in 1812 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He had a son, George Close born
about 1764 in Maryland who also died in Hardin County, Kentucky, after 1850.
If anyone runs across any thing on Gab Close and his wife Monarch Perkins in
KY, I would love to hear from them..
Joe Saylor

I developed an interest in geneology when our family was contacted by the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orange, California. They own and want to move the house my great grandfather, Nathaniel Mills Perry Close, built shortly after coming to California at the end of the 19th century. The house is now in a historic district and the church was required to do a historic resources survey. My great grandfateher was born in Illinois in 1858. Two of his brothers are said to have come to California in the 1880s but were "never heard from again".
I am eager to connect with others researching various Close lines so have recently started a DNA project for the Close surname. If you have any interest in this project, send me an e-mail and I'll get back to you.
I'm looking forward to the forum.
