I haven't recognized any of the names mentioned recently. My great grandfather, David Close, was born in Ayreshire, Scotland in Feb 1823. He and his bride Agnes Ferguson immigrated to Maryland in 1848 then settled in West Virginia. David's parents are William and Sarah Closs. Although he was born in Scotland, family probably came from somewhere else as this is not a Scottish surname. Ireland, England and Wales have been suggested as possibilities. Anyone recognize any of these names? Pam
I have Close ancestry in my family. My great grandmothers name was Frances Close who was born 71 Aug 1841 in Dromore, County Down, Ireland to Andrew Close and Francis Glen of Dromore, County Down, Ireland. Andrew Close brought all of his family to Bruce County, Ontario, Canada in the mid 1850s. My great grandmother married Thomas Watson in 1861 in Grey County, Ont. Canada. Her father Andrew Close was born in 1806 to Thomas Close and Mary Thompson in Balleny, Dromore, County Down, Ireland and he had a sister by the name of Elizabeth born about 1794 in Dromore, County Down. As for the Close's that were living in Dromore, County Down, they might of been related. I do not know who Andrew Close's other siblings are besides Elizabeth.
Hi,
My gggrandmother was Mary Close who married a Hugh McShane apparently from the Belfast/CO Down area? They were married ~ 1849-50 and had about 6-9 children starting with Elizabeth b. 1851.........Mary b. 1852, 1856, 1858 others, Maryann b. 1861 others b.1864, b. 1865, b. 1866 and Catherine b. 1869.
Assume there were Close's who were Catholic, as Hugh McShane was b. 1821 - d. 1891

I am trying to trace family of Albert Close who said from Liverpool UK and
arrived at Ellis Island april 15 1910. He came from Baltonsborough a village in
Somerset. He was 31 when he arrived. He sailed on the Lusitania. His brother
also came to the States he was Harold and there may have been another brother
Henry Charles who would have been 45 when he arrived. All from the same village
in Somerset - also maybe a cousin Frank.

I have finally found Lucy Caroline Lockwood on 1850 Census records for the Towne of Locke, NY, with her parents being Josephus & Almira Lockwood and having a sister, Harriet. The Census do not give the exact date of birth but the age. I am delighted in finding her on the Census but I still need an exact birthdate.
