As part of my research into another family, I have a BOWMAN family history that shows:
Elizabeth Tarbat Bowman, Born 1868, died 1945 East Malvern marrying a John CLOSE in 1890
Happy to share my information on the Bowman ancestors if there is anybody researching this couple.

Not correct. John "Goodman" was born in Grinton parish, Yorkshire. The parish registers (of baptisms, weddings and burials)for Grinton begin in 1640, when John had already departed for Connecticut. But all may not be lost - there are other records. From time to time I look for traces of him on this side of the Atlantic Ocean but I haven't found him for certain yet. There is, for example a John Close (or maybe some John Closes) of Whitaside serving as jurors at the Richmond Quarter sessions between 1614 and 1639. (Maybe a juror was a "good man" ?????)

John "Goodman" Close came from Yorkshire, England to CT. It is my understanding that the parish records from Yorkshire were destroyed in a WWII fire. That makes it tough to go back much further.

I have very little information on the Close family as they are ancestors to a brother-in-law. I do a little research for my inlaws whenever I have time. I do have a copy of the 1850 WI census:

Dwelling # 948 Family # 967
Jeremiah Close age 39 farmer b. NY (?)
Free(love?) Close age 38 b. NY
Deborah Close age 17 b. NY
Sarah Close age 15 b. NY
Levi Close age 13 b. NY
Richard Close age 11 b. NY
Jeremiah Close age 8 b. WI (?) (*married to Julia Bryant?)
Juliet Close age 6 b. WI
Lavinia Close age 4 (?) b. WI
William W. Palmer age 21 laborer b. NY (?) (*boarder ?)
Jeremiah Jr. married Julia Bryant, had a daughter, Nellie that married Fred Sass in 1905. Nellie and Fred are my brother-in-law's grandparents.

In the 1880 census, North Lake County, Indiana, Page: 493B
can be found:
Robert Close, age: 45
Augusta Close (maiden name Trowe), age: 31
and
August(a) Scholz, F W W 15 PRUSSIA
Believe the correct spelling should be Klose, and the person doing the census spelled the name wrong.
Any connection to Close in Whiting, IN, anywhere around north Lake County, Indiana.
Sure would like to make a family connection
