Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have finally discovered that James CLOSE Sr. and his wife Jane BENTLEY of Ontario, Canada, did indeed go to Illinois, about 1864. Apparently they settled in Broughton, Livingston Co., Illinois.
The following are their daughters' marriages:
Wilhelmina CLOSE, age 21, of Broughton, Illinois, married August 22, 1881 in Broughton, to John W(atts) PARKER of Kempton, Ford Co., Illinois.
Apparently they had at least one child named Sarah born in the early 1880's and then John remarried in 1895 to a Selina JOHNSON , so I presume Wilhelmina (Mina) died before 1895.
Hannah L. CLOSE, age 20, of Broughton, Livingston Co., Illinois, married Aug 22, 1881 in Broughton, to Peter J. GERHART , age 31, of Kempton, Ford Co., Illinois. Peter was the son of Peter GERHART Sr. and Elizabeth CLOSE. (not sure if Elizabeth is connected to our family).
Sarah J. CLOSE, age 26, of Broughton, married Aug 22, 1881 in Broughton to George L. WEATHERHEAD, age 37, of Kankakee Co., Illinois.
It is also possible that the following are children of James and Jane but there apparently are no "Return of a Marriage" forms attached to the marriage certificates, according to the County Clerk's office, but they would be about the right age for our family.
James CLOSE Jr., age 27, of Broughton, married 22 Dec 1875 in Livingston Co., to Emma COSSELMEN, age 20, of Round Grove, Livingston Co., Illinois. James is the same age as our James Jr.
Martha CLOSE, no age, married 22 Feb 1871 Livingston Co., to
Joseph SHAW, no age. Our Martha was born in 1852, so this could be the same Martha CLOSE.
James and Jane also had the following children as well. Some of these names are also in the Illinois Marriage Index, which I have to check out yet:
Robert b: 1845, Mary b: 1846; Joseph b: 1850; Marie b: 1855; Matilda b: 1858; William b: 1863; John b: 1865; and Lillie b: 1867.
If anyone thinks there is or may be a connection to any of their families, I would love to hear from you. They may not have all stayed in Livingston Co., as similar names are also found in other counties of Illinois.

Dear List members:
I received the following from the list administrator of another list I
am on, and since he presents it much better than I did, I thought it
would be worthwhile passing on to you.

Just dropping in to remind you to keep your virus protection
up-to-date. Bad little worm going around (hope none of you have
experienced it).
To learn more about it, here is one site to try:
http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=...
According to the postings on a list-owners mailing list, many people are
getting hit by it. Some list owners are unsubbing anyone from their
lists who are infected. I am not going to do that, unless I hear from
list owners that they are being hit. Please let me know if you get hit.
I use Norton Internet Security and it scans emails as they come in. It
will stop download of mail if it finds anything suspicious. Which it
did once.
Again, UPDATE VIRUS PROTECTION and BE WARY OF ANY ATTACHMENTS. If you
receive an attachment, study carefully the ext. of it. Attachments with
extensions of .scr and .pif are also executable files.
If in doubt, DELETE IT. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I tried one of the free trials last year and liked it so much I became a

you to take advantage of this offer and so some serious database
searching during your 14-day trial period.

My information re: the Close family is mostly gleaned from other sources
which I have been unable to confirm. However, what I have that I am sure
of is that my great grandmother was Cynthia R. Close and she married 1st
- William J. Pebbles and 2d - Benjamin Franklin Craft. My grandmother
was from the union with Craft. I was told by a Pebbles researcher that
Cynthia was full blooded Cherokee and was adopted by Noah Close and
Cynthia King Close. Census records for 1880 (Green Cty, Indiana) and
1920 (Olney Springs, Crowley County, Colorado) each state that Cynthia
was born in Ohio. These records also indicate that she had a brother
named Myron Coleman Close. I have located an obit for Myron (Miron) as
follows:
Myron C Close
age...80
county...San Diego
DOD...1-28-1915
state file...15-2302
My records indicated that Cynthia was born July 25, 1840. I have her
death and burial occurring in Olney Springs, Colorado in October 1928.
I am seeking any information that can help me trace her back to her
Cherokee roots. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello List:
Having just recently started tracking down my paternal
roots--CLOSE/KLOSS--I noticed that the CLOSE list was up for adoption so
decided to adopt it. As the List Administrator I am here to help you
with any problems you may have in subscribing, unsubscribing, etc. with
the list. Most of this is done automatically with the computer at
RootsWeb but should a request not be understood by their computer or if
one is just addressed to the List Administrator it will be sent to me.
If you have any problems at all with your subscription, please don't
hesitate to email me.
As to CLOSE research, please try to post as much as possible to the
List. I, like you, am searching also, and will be asking for your help,
too.
Having said this, I would like to call for a ROLL-CALL from everyone,
letting us know what your interests are. From reading through the
archives, I notice there are CLOSEs from England and some from France.
Mine came from Germany. The original spelling was KLOSS, then KLOSE
and finally to CLOSE. Will post more details in separate message.
I am looking forward to working with everyone on the list in your quest
for your ancestors.
