Dear Pat, Hello! Always happy to meet another member of the clan! LOL! My
grandfather Thomas was born in 1863 and married Sophia Rodgers in 1900. However,
immediate members of the family, that is the brothers and sisters of my
grandfather's Dad, David of which there were 12 in total inc/ David were born
earlier in the 19th century. Thomas is a favorite family name, my brother included
and they appear in every generation. John is another favored name. Now, I have
met, via the Internet, descendants of David's siblings that actually did go to
California in the early 20th century to engage in real estate as well as oil.
I am sending you a picture of Walter Clooney who was the son of Patrick
Clooney (brother of David) Walter, in the picture went to India after making some
money in real estate. In the picture, he is the one in white standing with
others at an oil drill. There is definitely a California connection as well as
Illinois. I will be going to NYC on the 4th of July and later to Western, NY
where much of the family began their lives in the US along with PA. I find in the
census' throughout the 19th century using spellings of family that I know are
related and how, as Cluny, Clooney and Cluney. Some of the early immigrants
didn't read or write English so the spellings were at the mercy of the census
takers. When I get to Western, NY, I'll be looking up some old records and land
titles. Please stay in touch. --Thanks for writing and I will do the same.
