Went to the State Genealogy Library, Austin, TX , this week and found these
tidbits Names are spelled as shown on records.
Mt. Hood Trackers - Vol 14-16 1974 -1976 (An Oregon genealogical
magazine)
Cloneinger, J.A. - - From the Oregon Spectator, Sept 7, 1848. There is an
article discussing the emigration of wagons on way to Pacific. Names of
gentlemen composing the forward companies include: Fourth Co. - J.A.
Cloneinger.
There are two volumes "Genealogical Material in Oregon Donation Land
Claims" in which genealogical data was abstracted from papers in Land
Office at Portland. There are often several names mentioned with each
application which could be family or friends. I am including only the
Cloninger names:
Cert #1501 Clouingor, David J., Affidavit witnessed, 4/1862, Washington
County Vol 1
Vol 2
Cert #2922 Cloninger, David A, Columbia County, b.NC, arr Ore Sept 20,
1848, claim June 11, 1850; m.Susan R. Feb 5, 1845, Tenn Cert #3231
Cloniger, David A., witnessed affidavit, Columbia County.
Cert #3479 Cloninger, David C. witnessed affidavit, Jjune 17, 1866,
Columbia County
Another name found while surfing Oregon State Archives:
Harry Clonniger - Case # 0816 - Guardianship - Columbia County, OR
Janet Cloninger Summers
This is a comment on proofreading and good recordkeeping. As we all know
surnames are historically spelled phonetically ect. which results in
numerous ways to spell the same name.
Recently as I was double checking some old data I came across several
Arkansas data transcription books published by Capitola Hensley Glazner
and Bobbie Jones McLane. I applaud these ladies for publishing old records
in the late 1960's...but proofreading is essential. They have copied
CLONINGER as CLOVINGER, CLONAGER, CLONEGER,and CLEVINGER. I have seen the
original records and they read CLONINGER to me. Other people have
transcribed this same data (census and marriage records) and read the
names as CLONINGER also. So I guess what I am saying is go to the
courthouse if you can and view the records with your own eyes if at all
possible.... If not, remember human error exists. I didn't realize
how important good recordkeeping and double checking was when I began
tracing my family 30 years ago. Sorry about the soap box.

Here is some really interesting info......I still have not posted the
info I got from the Palentines but will do so soon. One thing the man
asked me was if this Gerhardt was related. Sure looks good to me. I
wonder since we are having such trouble finding info about Lewis Wills
early years, if it might be an idea to look into this Gerhardt? What do
you think?

I will be more than happy to pass on the information. It will probably be
in bits and pieces, but hope to get all the information to you eventually.
Here goes:

m. ca 1775 LC,NC Anna Magdalena Wills, b. 27 Mar. 1751 Berks Co. PA., d. 13

NOTE: Mary Magdalena Wills Rhyne, age 89, was living in home of her son
Simon 1850 GNC, NC Census. Her tombstone gives her age as 93 years at time
of death. Either she was 103 at death or we have the wrong Mary Magdalena.

I just had a thought. How about if I scan this information and try to send
it by E-mail or else I can make copies and send it snail mail if you give me
your address. I don't mind doing it either way, but my typing skills leave
something to be desired and it would probably get done a lot quicker.
Let me know, otherwise I will just keep "plugging away".

Hey Gang,
Here is some stuff on Gerhart WILL (should read WÜLL) that was posted
to the TNJOHNSO-L
mailing list tonight and I thought it should be sent to our list ASAP!
This came from Machelle Bronaugh at <hammack(a)pacbell.net> but she
got it, I think, from Robert Brubaker at <brubara(a)thesanjuans.com>
Go ahead and sift through this and see if you find anything that we didn't
know about Maria Charlotta WÜLL, wife of Johann Phillip KLONINGER.
Have a goodun,

That's All for now, Folks!
Dave
Hi Agnes,
Good to here from you. You mentioned a will for Mary Berry's father. Do you
know how to get a hold of that? On my Henry. It has been determaned that my
Henry was the son of John Cloninger 1781-1837. I say determaned because we do
not have absolute proof. This has been accepted by Nard Cloninger and most
others in our research group. I saw that you still had Michael and Henry as
the same person. We now have proof that they were 2 different people. We found
an estate paper for John Cloninger 1781-1837. lists Sons Michael and Henry.
Nard says there is enough evidence to place my Henry 1810-1875 as the son of
John. The Henry that had been placed as son of John was Henry Cloninger 1822
married Lucinda Rankin. I ask Nard why this Henry had been placed there? He
said that he seamed to fit at the time. He has now moved this Henry as the son
of Daniel Cloninger who married Catey Berry. I have census recs that support
Henry and brother Andrew moved to Yalobusha Co MS. There ages fit the sons of
John and there births are listed NC. Also the estate of John Cloninger lists
son Andrew Cloninger living out of state in the 1840 estate papers. Andrew has
land deeds as early as 1845 in Yal. Co MS. Henry and Andrew are living near
each other in the 1860 Yal. Co MS. I know we need more but I am convinced we
are on the right tract and since Nard has blessed this even make me feel
better about it. Let me know what you think.
Doy Cloninger
Dear Doy,
It has been many moons - am glad to know you are still there, it has been a
couple of years since we last communicated. I am Agnes Cloninger wife of
Coite Cloninger.
No, I have nothing to add to what you have, just wanted to say Hi.
I know you are a thorough researcher so presume you have not found a will
for James Franklin nor Henry, but I wonder if Mary Berry's father had
anything to say about them in his will?
Have you ever determined where your Henry fit into the family - Adam's or
Michael's families?
Nice to find you again.

I am looking for information on Leila Farnell Blackwell and her family.
Susan Tison (Tyson) was her mother or grandmother. Although I am not a
Blackwell or Farnell, the descendents of Leila Farnell Blackwell and I
share a common ancestor in Susan Tison who was either Leila's mother or
grandmother. I hope these names ring a bell with someone.

Greetings one and all,
Have you seen this mailing list yet?

I think it is relatively new because there are few postings.

Hi,
Here's the excerpt from "The Annals of Upper Georgia Centered in Gilmer
County" by George Gordon Ward pg. 87:
'Ten Baptist churches were incorporated by the
legislature in 1854 with respective trustees as
as listed after each: Ellijay, R.B. Perry, N.L.
Osborn, GEORGE CLONIGER; Towncreek, Robert
Jordan........etc, etc.'
Anything in your ancient files regarding George? Come on, let's shake
the Cloninger Family Tree! My pious George is a tough nut to crack!
