I am also related to both DeWitt and George Clinton. My mother is Luanne Clinton, daughter of Wayne Clinton of Lynn, Massachusetts. I am curious if any of our ancestors fought for either side of the Civil War

We have a John Clinton born 1815 in orange county N.C. do you think possibly the child you mentioned being very young could be my GGG grandfather? There seems to be no family even near my GGG grandfather when he finally settles in middle Tenn. We can find no record of the move between his childhood to adulthood until he moves and marries. What was John's wife's name please? Do you have her maiden name by chance? Chris trying to reach me because I have a book he is interested in although I have no relation to him I can prove. My GGG grandfather's family was also very poor although he was in the civil war. I must visit Marshal county someday so I can really look. I have several books that have helped me along but I do welcome any advice you may have to give me...

Hi Chris! the book is called :The Clinton Lineage and Related Families By Howard C Clinton. In the book it mentions Matthias being born in 1788 is this the same Matthias you asked about? Above Matthias name it mentions William S Clinton born 1766. William served in the Revolutionary war and also served in the house of the commons from Sampson county N.C. for the 1799 to 1800 term. Before Wiliam there is another William Smith Clinton born 1692.they immigrated from England or maybe Ireland in the ship George and Anne the year 1729. This is a big story in history-you should google it if you don't already know the history. Let me know if I can help further. I just know my ancestors must fit here in this family somewhere. Just need to keep looking....

Agnes Mclure married John Clinton 8 Sep 1831 in Girthon, Kirkcudbright, Scotland They came to USA w/family and landed 1846 in New Orleans and then went to Brownsville, Haywood Co., Tn. I believe her fathers name was Alexander, from the 1841 Scotland census. They were Presbyterians. Have lots of info except on the McClure side. They arrived in 1846 on the ship Severn all 9 of them., 7 were Clinton children. They can be found in 1841 Birthplace Kircudbrightshire Parish Girthon Scotland Census Page 3 Parish 866. Their 7th child was Robert M.H. married Mary Baxter 1880 in Haywood Co., Tn. and they had 7 children and the second was Robert A. born Jul 1883. Hope you have a wonderful trip. If you are of this family we must be related somehow. see Clinton1 (file) by beetlevick

Does anyone have a link from Robert Clinton (1820-60's Tennessee, late 1780's South Carolina) to an ancestor in either Ireland or Scotland? Would love to do a little ancestor-hunting while I'm there on a trip.
