Hello
my name is Paula from the parish of Fohenagh in Co.
Galway. I am part of a local community group, Ireland Reaching out, searching for people of Irish heritage abroad with a connection to our parish and I hope I may be able to help you in tracing your ancestors.
I am familiar with Clintons in Fohenagh. There is an old house near the village church where the Clintons used to live.
You can post a message under the Fohenagh parish, if you wish.Fohenagh is a small parish in East Galway in the barony of KILCONNELL, and in the province of CONNAUGHT about 12 Kilometres' north west of Ballinasloe and 3 kilometres west of Ahascragh. It has an area of approx 8, 580 acres. The place name Fohenagh is derived from the Irish word fothannán meaning thistle - the village of the thistles. It is not a very friendly title but there are several derivations for the same word throughout the
country. It was quiet common in ancient Ireland to name places after what scholars called the "vegetable Kingdom.
We believe this is a unique opportunity for the parish of
Fohenagh and all parishes involved in the Pilot Project. We hope it will be very successful and help us reconnect with our ancestors.
It is our aim as to track all people who have left the parish and their living descendents if they have any. The idea is that a virtual community will be created online in conjunction with a parish website. Once the data from the parish survey is updated onto the system, each participating parish will organize a 'Week of Welcomes' annually to welcome back those that have left the parish and their descendents.

Best wishes and good luck with your research.
Happy New Year
