One son of Samuel Harrison Clinton was William D. Clinton b. 9/13/1847 per Howard Clinton's book. Howard lists about 35 williams - none meets the date you list.

Greetings - I too am interested in the Clintons of eastern Tennessee. My roots are in Putnam County via grandfather James Marshall Clinton. I think the work of Howard Clinton can be trusted back to William Smith Clinton - b.c. 1692. But I can find no evidence that he was born a Clinton. My Haplogroup is G. The Clintons of England were of Norman extraction - probably NOT Gs. I hope we may share ideas.
Gerald Clinton

I actually know very little about the Clinton family. I have a copy of the journal that John kept on ship as they came from England to New Orleans in 1847. There is also a ship record showing which ship they came over on and the entire family. I am a Barclay which one of Johns daughters married. He actually married both Susan Barclay and had a son that eventually died after his own Mother, then John married her sister Emily R. Barclay. I am sorry that I can't be of further help right now but I don't have any other info.

I'm trying to find the information I have on Matthias in the book I have although it only shows the information of John Lennington his son or grandson. The only record I have is his tax records that proved he lived in Orange co N.C. His family moved on to Tenn perhaphs without him. I swore I had at least Matthias's father's name. Matthias had one wife's name I have here her name was Elizabeth and they married in 1774 in N.C. I have been researching this family because my ancestors MUST have a connection with this family because the names are repeated over and over in history. Plus the fact they came from the exact county. When I come across more information I will update you. Sorry it took so long I am a young mother with two kids and it has been crazy trying to get their schedules met with school dance cheer wrestling you get the picture. Also have you checked with locating any of the Orange county tax books marriage license or Goodspeed books? I'll look through some to ref!
resh my memory of this family. I 'm currently researching eight. Good Luck!! Keep in touch!

My family of Clinton's,the earliest I can go back to is Orange county North Carolina. Looks like it all starts with Matthais Clinton then John and then the list unfolds . My line goes thru John L then Newton J then my grandfathers grandpaw and his dad . Seems to be from the same line as yours Amy . I would love more informaton!
I just can't find anything on Johns dad Matthais . It's weird . I'd like to find out were our Clinton family came from. Any information would be great!
Thanks,
Chris Clinton
