David, It is nice to hear from you. Allie Clinton is my Grandmother. I have a copy or her death certificate. I know that Fred L. Clinton was her brother but did not know of any other siblings. Harriet Belk was Allie's mother and Fred A Clinton was her father. This information is listed on the birth certificate. Her married name is Reese so you can also find information on her using the name Allie Reese or Alice Reese. She died in Cleveland Ohio on Aug 5, 1944
Rich

It's been some time since you posted your query so you might have gotten more info about Allie. If so, I'm curious about what info you gathered. I have info that shows that Maggie Clinton was Allie Clinton's sister (along with Fred L. Clinton) and "Arlpa" according to the 1860 Census, if the Alice Belk listed is actually the same person as Allie Clinton. My research points to Harriett Belk as being Allie's, Maggie's, Fred's, and Arlpa's mother. I'd really like to find some primary research that confirms that all 4 kids are, in fact, siblings. Maggie Clinton, by the way, is my great-grandmother.
Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David

White, lawyer, land owner, slave owner in Cedar Creek, Lancaster, South Carolina. Shows up in 1860 Census as having a wife named Martha Clinton and a young girl named Elizabeth Sims residing with them.
Most interested in how he acquired his 17 slaves. More specifically, how did he come by a slave named Camie Cheese, born about 1810 (alternately listed as "Black" and "Mulatto" in the records). Given the ages of both he and Ms. Cheese, I'm wondering if Ms. Cheese was originally owned by Clinton's parents (father?) who also must have owned Ms. Cheese's mother. Or was Ms. Cheese purchased later by Clinton (rather than having "inherited" her)?
Ultimate goal is to trace Ms. Cheese's lineage back to Africa if possible. To that, I need more info about her most recent slave owner, Ervin (also listed as "Irvin") Clinton.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
David
