There are a number of Clinton's from the Wilmington Delaware area. Russell Clinton had 7 children. 6 were sons and 1 daughter. I have been told that my grandfather Russell came originally from NY state. I don't know much about his past and was told that he ran away from NY as a teenager. There was a family named Clinton from Longford County Ireland with descendents who settled in Little Britain, NY.

My gggmother was Ellen Clinton, of County Laois, Ireland, born 1812 and died 4 Jan 1884. In 1831, she married Bernard Mathews, born 15 Apr 1810, of County Dublin. They both emigrated to USA in 1834 and ended up settling in Hardin County, OH. Family legend has it that Ellen was related to Lord Clinton of Revolutionary War fame, but this could be wishful thinking. I've seen some other postings on this forum linking the Mathews and Clinton names. Any clues to Ellen Clinton's parentage or other relations will be greatly appreciated.
