Kim, this has nothing to do with Clinton name but, you and I we decided long ago are 4th cousins. I first contacted you about Harriet Addison and Nathan Melton. Somehow, thru a dumb move on my part, I lost all of my contact names in my address book when my computer went down and crazy one day. :-( Won't you PLEASE write me again and let's catch up. I have more info now on the Melton/Addison line, tho not a lot, but it might be something you don't yet have and I would like to share. I did so want to keep in touch. I looked on messages you had 'authored' in the message board--found the most recent one and that is how I came to write under this 'sarah clinton' message. Write me. cajungal3342(a)aol.com

Laura,
Sorry, but I was mistaken about my CLINTON family being in Sevier Co., Tennessee. That information came from an old file I had here at work, as my computer at home is all torn apart right now.
My CLINTON line is down from James Clinton:
He is documented as a Revulutionary War Veteran, from York Dist., SC
His wife was Ann Armstrong. They moved to Crittenden Co., Kentucky.
We know from Pension files that he was born in Chester Co., Pennsylvania on
11 Aug 1761. We have been unable to find documentation to concirm his father,
assumed to be James, son of Archibald Clinton.
James died 02 Mar 1847 and is buried at Piney Fork Cemetery, Crittenden Co., Kentucky

Since we are on the subject of Tennessee Clintons, I thought I would add my stumbling block to the queries. My husband's ancestor, Robert Clinton, and wife Sarah Coonrad (sometimes spelled "Conrad") lived in Bolivar TN at least 1826-1867. We know that Robert traveled from Bolivar to his mother's funeral in Logan County KY in December, 1867 but we don't know his mother's name. She was born in South Carolina in 1769; we also know that Robert's father (also nameless at this point) was born in South Carolina but we don't have the exact year.
We would love to connect this Bolivar, Tennessee Robert Clinton to his South Carolina ancestors but I am stumped on proof of his parents' names. Any clues or leads?

Kim,
Could you give me the names and dates of the Sevier County Clintons who moved to Illinois? My father was born in Sevierville and I have been looking at the Sevier County Clintons for about 3 years. I have traced them from the 1830 census forward and have put every Clinton born there in my family tree. I have never found any of them who moved to Illinois so I am very curious to have this information. If you have any specific questions I can give you information just about any Clinton born there.
Thanks,
Laura Clinton Vasut

Good morning
Sorry, I don't know about the Sevier Co. TN Clintons. But my Jackson Co. IL Clintons were in Perry Co. IL (by 1830) before moving on to Jackson Co.(by 1840) Prior to that, they were in Calloway Co. KY for a short time, but my first record of them is in Hopkins Co. KY where my Zachariah md. Sarah Hanks 18 Nov 1821.
There were other unattached Clintons in Jackson Co. in 1860. One was MATILDA CLINTON 37 b. TN head of house, with Eliza 13 b. MO, William 10 b. IL. Also in this house was Benj. F. Elms (?). Then there was Ellis Wright 35 b. IL with Elizabeth 45, Ritchford 10 and ANOTHER MARTHA CLINTON age 14. Marion Murphy was also living in this household age 18 and listed a a domestic.
Since Martha age 9 was living with the Gregory family, she could have been the dau of Matilda, to it would seem that if Matilda had to make other living arrangements, she would have sent her older dau. rather than the younger one.
Re TN, I happened upon Archibald, James, John and Henry in Bedford Co. TN very early - late 1700 - early 1800's.. I believe this line came out of NC, continued thru TN and into KY. I also think its interesting that John and Henry lived next door to each other in Bedford, and my Zach named his two sons John and Henry. My Zachariah is one big blank before showing up at age 26 in the Hopkins Co. marriage records, but Sarah Hanks and her family were in Davidson Co. TN from the late 1700's until a bit after 1800 when they went to Hopkins Co.
One more Clinton family of interest due to the naming patterns that follow my Clintons almost exactly and in the Franklin Co. MO 1850 census was that of Samuel Clinton age 37 b. KY. Mary 36 b. KY, Mary J. 13 b. IN, Sarah 12 b. IN, Nancy 11, b. KY Margaret 10 b. KY, Eliza 6 b. MO, and William 6/12's b. MO. Looks like the first set of children are from Samuel's first marriage, or the second set are orphaned neices and nephews.
I'd like to find a genie in a bottle just one time!! (b.g.)
Who were your Clintons who were in Sevier Co. TN?
Joanne

Joanne,
Do you know if your CLINTONs in Perry Co., Illinios have any connection to the CLINTON families who moved to Jefferson Co., Illinois from Sevier Co., Tennessee, and to Franklin Co., Illinois apparently from Tennessee.
I have not had any luck to date at tying all the various CLINTON families together.

Greetings
At the 1860 census for Jackson Co. IL there is listed:
John Gregory 32, Maria 31, children Mary 12, Catherine 8, Martha 7, John 2, Samuel Hewitt 20(laborer) and SARAH CLINTON, age 9.
Living next door to this family was John Boom and Martha - they should be John W. Boon and wife Martha Clinton. Next house down was Edward Hanson and his wife Nancy Clinton who was Martha's sister.
I wonder how it was that this SARAH CLINTON came to live next door to my Clintons, but I don't have a record of her. Does anyone know who she was?? Was she related to Martha and Nancy?? How?? Help Help!!
Joanne
