Hello all;
I have been searching my elusive Norman Sturgis ancestor in the
Greenville and Hubbardston
area. The 1870/1880 census gives the townships and not the towns. could
someone please
tell me in which townships Hubbardston and Greenville are situated. I
have scoured and downloaded
all the Sturgis I can find and can't place him yet in a particular
family. Kathleen Cochran-Hutchinson

I have a Mary Clinton born about 1854 in Co. Galway, IR. The next child was born in Roxbury, MA in 1856, and I believe the family emigrated to New York and thence to the Boston area. I have nothing further on Mary but her sister, Bridget, was my great-grandmother. Their parents were John Clinton and Catherine Mooney. I have no idea if this is the same family but it does seem possible.

Mary Clinton is a rather common name, so it's hard to tell...mine was last known to be in Boston area in 1860, but not sure where she went from there. I believe she was born in Ireland in 1852-1854, then emigrated into New York prior to Dec. 1856, with her family settling in Roxbury, MA. Who knows!! Maybe down the road we'll connect, but will have to find more info. first. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I'm wondering if we aren't connected somehow. The names of all the children of Malachy are the same as in my line, but the years are too late. Do you know the parents of Malachy? I'm wondering if he might be a brother to my gggrandfather John D. Clinton m. Catherine Mooney in Ireland, came to U.S. c. 1854-1856. Will try to contact Mary possible this weekend. Thanks!! Let's keep in touch.

Hi Jean,
My Clintons were from County Galway. Specifically, Chaplefinnerty.
Here is what I know.
Malachy Clinton married Catherine Noone about 1839. they had the following children:
John(my gggrandfather), Bridget, Michael, Margaret, Patrick, Rose and Mary.
John was born about 1846. He married Bridget Hart in St. Helens, England in 1868. He then came to the U.S. in 1871 and settled in Jersey City, NJ.
His brother Patrick married Margaret McKeon and settled in Roxbury. I believe your Clintons are related to my Malachy.
There is a Mary Clinton Morris who lives in Boston she is also related and is helping me to research.
Do you think we have a connection? I have a lot more information.
You might want to contact Mary Morris, she would love to hear from you. She knows a bit more about the clintons of ireland and the ones from boston.
her e-mail address is mary.f.morris(a)verizon.com
I hope to hear from you soon,
Dawn-Marie

Any idea where your Clinton's are from? Prior to the U.S.
My Clinton line came from Co. Galway, and made Roxbury their home in the mid 1850s. They were John and Catherine Mooney Clinton, children: Bridget, Patrick, Thomas, Michael, Malishi, Mary, Margaret & John. All the children born in Ireland, with exception of John, who was born in Roxbury Dec. 14, 1856. Does any of this sound familiar or connected with yours. I'm not sure, but have a feeling that John Sr. had siblings and possibly landed in the same area...could yours be his sibling's family???

Hi Dawn-Marie,
Your guess is as good as mine...it seems there are too many coincidences for this to not be a connection, but the years don't sound right for what I now know...but maybe somewhere in the near future we will be able to decipher more of the similarities. I just connected with Barbara Bailey this weekend and we are definitely of the same family, we are in the process of trying to consolidate our info. and see where we are. Please keep my e-mail and stay in touch.
Thanks for your inquiry. Good luck searching!!! We really got LUCKY!!!!
I am also researching a John Clinton b. 1858 Whitewater, Walworth Co.,
Wisconsin son of James & Anne (Sweeney) Clinton. James Clinton was b. 1834 in
Ireland.
Anyone researching this family? ...Karen

Hi Jean,
I just saw the message that you posted. I don't know if we are the same line but here is my Clinton info.
Malachy Clinton m. Catherine Noone in Ireland. They had the following children. John(my ggggrandfather) Bridget, Patrick(the one who married Margaret Mckeon and lived in Roxbury), Michael, Margaret and Rose.
The name Ellen Mooney appears on the marriage certificate for John, who married Bridget Hart in England in 1868. She was a witness.
Do you think there is a connection?
Can't wait to hear from you!

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your reply. It is very possible we have the same Clinton family. You are the first that I have connect with that much in common. Do you know what happened with your John Clinton? I have Dec. 14, 1856, but that could possibly be wrong, I've found other discrepancies in his age at various times in reviewing old census records. Do you have any further info. on where in Ireland they came from?
Out of curiosity, what part of the country are you located in?
I'm in Washington state.

Looking for parent info for both Alvin Nobles and Minerva Luster. Both born in MO per 1850 census. No clue to parents of Minerva but wonder if it could be James Luster/Mary Clinton? I believe Alvin son of Merrit Nobles and Milla Clinton but need confirmation/sources. Merrit died and Milla married William Mattock per MO marriage records. On 1850 Sugar Loaf Twp, Carroll Co., Ark, Milla and Wm were household before Alvin and Manerva (sp) and daughter Emily. Ages would be right for Milla (42) to be mother of Alvin (22). Both Alvin and Manerva died young and in 1860 their children were living with different families. I am a descendant of the oldest son Stephen B Nobles, who left AR, went to TX, then on to CA. There was an Uncle Yell Nobles who also ended up in CA and I believe he was brother of Merrit. The name of UncleYell has been mentioned in family notes. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Please email me at jb41(a)myway.com. Thank you! Jan

I'm looking for any info which migh connect a Jasper Clinton, Emma Clinton and Littie Clinton as siblings, all born or raised in AR. Emma appeared to have married a J.M. Ward (per 1910 AR census). Lettie married Thomas C. Pinckard, Sr. On her funeral home information, her parents are stated as Tom Clinton and Jane Batson. Hopefully someone out there might have more info. Thanks.
