Marion Winfield Clinton was my great grandfather- his father was Calvin Clinton - both of Sevierville Tn. Marion Winfield had four children - Calvin, Ellen Cordelia, Polly, and Julia - Ellen "Delia" was my grandmother. Marion was married to Lucretia J. Gorden. He died about 1898 (probably Influenza) and the children had to be taken to other homes (their mother left) by the oldest boy Calvin. Polly married J.W. Rector, Julia married Brownloe Parton, Calvin Married Clemmie Bales, and Delia married John Cleveland Banks.
I have a Thomas Clinton, child of Earl Henry Clinton (b: 9/29/1616) and
Catherine Hastings. They had three children, Thomas, Edward, Francis. My
Thomas had two half siblings (Henry and Robert) by another wife, Elizabeth
Morrison. Seems like the dates are off for your guy, but thought it might
help some way.

Norman's son Urial was the first Postmaster of Clintonville, WI the city is his namesake. Norman left your town went to Mensha finally moved to Pigeon, WI. in the spring of 1855 was the first white family to set up a home site. Some time later his sons Urial and Luman followed him and built homes in the area. On July 17, 1857 the registar of Land Office appointed Urial P. Clinton the first Postmaster of Clintonville because he could not remember the orginal name learned while visiting the area earlier. Pigeon ceased to exist and Clintonville was born. Norman died in Clintonville on 9/22/1868 and is buried in the city's Graceland Cemetery. by the way Norman's father Henry died 7/1/1843 in Waukesha and is buried in Praire Home cemetery in your town. If you drive up to Clintonville and visit their library the whole story can be obtained. I think the Clinton involved in the underground railroad was Orson P. brother to Norman who was a congregational minster and later a bishop. N!
orman was my great great grandfather.

Dear Roger:
What a gift yiou give me! I hav e been searching for Norman Clinton for about three years.
IF THIS IS THE SAME MAN, he was one of the founders of Waukesha, Wisconsin (where I am located) and was the first owner (1839) of the property we own here after the Native Americans were driven out. I haven't verified it yet (only have anecdotal accounts), but believe he was a Deacon in the local Congregational Church, and POSSIBLY participated in the Underground Railroad here a few years later - at leasst A Deacon Clinton did. Now I'll have to verify some of the rest of the data.
I could not be more grateful.
John-Julian
