Doing research for a friend.
Trying to find ancestors of Robert Clinton, born approx. 1867 in MO and died
1960.
Married to Ellen Hughes in 1887. Family settled in Ironton/Graniteville MO.
Would love to hear from anyone familiar with or doing research on the family.
Thanks
Nancy Walsh
Clintons were possibly Indian traders or connected to the Indian trade
in the southeast, as the name is listed in the surname index of a three
volume set of Indian Affairs journals, located at
http://members.aol.com/rarebk
Once at the site, go to Booklists, then Native American Genealogy, and
scroll down to the Cherokee Ancestry CD. There you will see a link to
the surnames.
This site also has an on-line tutorial that shows how to do Native
American Genealogy research (the 1835 Cherokee census is within that) and
explains the rolls in detail, also some CD's that look to have lots of
resource material, and a surname index to Starr's "Old Cherokee Families
and their Genealogy."
There is more, but too much to list here.

Greetings
Does anyone on the list know anything about JOHN CLINTON who is listed as a
private in the book "TN - THE VOLUNTEER STATE 1769-1934"
In the book 'PA VOLUNTEERS IN THE WAR OF 1812:
John Clinton listed as a corpl.
And from "ROSTER OF SOLDIERS FROM NC IN AMER. REV., PIERCE'S REGISTER, VOL X
PG 241:
#241 JOHN CLINTON, Private, Nbr of acres 228. Services in months: 30.
(I believe this land was in Davidson Co. TN)
And from; "PA MARRIAGES BEFORE 1790" there were:
JOHN CLINTON who married ANN FIVEY ON 15 Nov. 1775 in PA
SARAH CLINTON who married WILLIAM NOBLITT on 2 Dec, 1765
CATHERINE CLINTON who marred ISAAC HESTON on 7 June 1774
J.C. who married SARAH HARRISON on 12 Aug 1784
JOSEPH CLINTON who married MARY BURMAN on Dec 19, 1784
SAMUEL CLINTON who married MARY HARRISON on 13 Jan 1785
The last three marriages took place at Christ Church, Philadelphia and are
from those records.
I'm really looking for info on the John Clinton above. Just tossed in the
rest of the info hoping it would help someone.
Thanks
Joanne
