I noticed that Benjamin Terry and his wife Mary Clinck b.abt. 1780 who lived on a farm in Coeymans Hollow, Coeymans Township, Albany County and are buried in the cemetery did not have a son so there would not be any Terry's there today descended from Benjamin and Mary, though there are probably still a few distant cousins in the area named Terry and others with other local names probably.

It has been a long time, but I recall that there was a problem that there was very little info on James Parshall Terry and his wife Sarah Clinck however Sarah Clinck 1787-1809 was on an old Terry family monument that was copied way back in 1934 when someone did a transcription of the old stones in the old Terry Family Cemetery in Coeymans Township, Albany County, NY. So we know that she did have that Coeymans Terry family connection as did her older sister Mary Clinck who married Benjamin Terry. For many years Benjamin an Mary resided in Coeymans. Some one at the time I was researching my Coeymans Clink kin mentioned that Sarah died a couple of years after her marriage to James Parshall Terry and that she and husband had one daughter Phoebe Terry.I need to check and see what details were given me regarding this Phoebe Terry. All of my Clink research related files are currently in storage as it was some time ago since I researched Clinks.

I was interested in the Clink name because they married into the Terry family. My grgrgrandmother was Phoebe Terry born 1794 to Phillip and Betsey Mason Terry. Phoebe married Edward Teets in Bethleham NY. I have been trying to find a family bible or some record that would prove her birth and thought maybe one the Clink descendants might have a record. I know the Tery's and Clinks moved to Coeymans. Phoebe died in 1880 at home of her daughter Martha Provost in Coeymans, Albany started keeping death records in 1880 but it was in later part of the year and she was not listed. Good luck in your search. M.E.

Sarah Clink daughter of Johannes Georg Clinck and Phoebe Thornton was the first wife of a James Parshall Terry of Coeymans TOwnship, Albany County They married in 1807 I thought it was but she died apparently in 1809 following the birth of one child Phoebe Terry. I understand she was buried in the old Terry family burial ground in Coeymans Township. Her sister married Benjamin Terry also of the old Terry family at Coeymans and she died in 1869 and is buried in the Coeymans Hollow Cemetery. It is not known where her parents John G. Klinck and Phoebe Thornton are buried.
The John Clink recorded at Coeymans Township Albany County in the 1800 U.S Census is actually the sister's older brother John Clink. I noticed some of the online census info in the past missed John Clink's Coeymans census entry. That the son "Johannes" born in 1774 in Dutchess County, NY. First Child of Johannes Georg Klinck or Clinck and his second wife Phoebe Thornton.

St.Pauls Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg, Rhinebeck, Dutchess County NY
Johannes Jacob Klinck, his wife Margaretha and a Johannes Jeorg or Georg Klinck appear in the record of this church from 1763 to 1774. I believe Johannes "Jacob' klinck and Johann Georg Klinck were father and son. Johannes Georg Klinck baptised 1737 in Plattenhardt, WuerttembergI believe was a son from Jacob Klincks first marriage to Anna or Anna Maria Bopplen. I also believe that Jacob arrived in America in 1754 and subsequently left Pennsylvania for Crum Elbow District Dutchess County near Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck NY. This church was esttablished by Lutheran Germans from Wuerttemberg. Here are all the church records connected to this family
Original Confirmation or membership List for 1763 and 1764
1763 Johannes Jacob Klinck
1764 Johannes Jeorg or Georg Klinck
Baptismal and Birth Records
1764 Matheus Marschall and ELizabeth Anna Maria sponsors Jacob KLinck & Margaretha
1766 Hans Jeorg Klinck and Theresia Catharina sponsors Johannes Coonley&Catharina
1769 Hans Jeorg Klinck and Theresia Margaretha sponsors Johannes Albrecht&Margareth
1770 " " George Klinck and Theresia Jacob sponsors Jacob Klinck & Margareth
1774 Hans George Krenk and Phoebe Johannes sponsors Johannes Kuhnli and Maria
Later births of Johannes Georg Klinck and Phoebe (Thornton) probably occurred in Albany County but no registered births or baptisms after 1774 recorded for subsequent children of Johannes Georg Klinck or John Clinck as he sometimes referred to in America. Some descendants have fortunately kept records of their birth dates or approximate birth dates of the children born after Johannes Clink (John Clink) the first child born to Johannes Georg Klinck and his second wife Phoebe (Thornton). Please note regretably there are marriage records that survive for Johannes Georg Klinck's first marriage to Theresia (Marshall?) which apparently occurred possibly around 1764 and his second marriage to Rhode Island native Phoebe Thornton which possibly occurred around 1773. Decided to start from the beginning on this and see if these pieces in the puzzle fit and Plattenhardt, Wuerttemberg / Dutchess County Klink connection makes any sense. See previous posting.

Sorrry my ancestor was baptized May 03, 1737. Glad you brought that to my attention. I think he was listed as Johannes Jerg Klinck or some spelling like that in the old Plattenhardt parish records. I call him Johannes Georg Klinck. I mean't 1737 for the baptism and birth year for my ancestor Johanne Georg or Jerg Klinck son of Johannes Jacob Klinck of Plattenhardt from his first marriage. Johannes Georg Klinck was not living with his father and his second wife Margaretha Fichter when they left for America however when Johannes Jacob Klinck and his wife Margetha and family arrive in Dutchess County Jacob, his sons Michael, Frederick and my ancestor his son Johannes Georg or Jerg Klinck show up various records there and Jacob Klinck and his son Johanne Georg Klinck became confirmed members in 1763 and 1764 of St. Pauls Lutheran CHurch in Wuerttemburg, Duchess County, NY a church established Wuerttemberg German settlers a few years earlier. These particular ancestors unfortu!
nately did not leave clear detailed records but they did leave a little bit of a trail behind them for me to follow which led me to Dutchess and neighbouring Albany County in the 1700's though it was really not hard to figure that the Dutchess and Albany County Klincks/Clinks were all related and of Wuerttemberg German origin, but contracting the family tree has been more of a challenge. It is not easy when you have find the pieces and then have to figure out how they all fit. Fortunately Johannes Georg Klinck and Phoebe Thornton have descendants out there who have helped to fill in some gaps in my research and help answer a few questions over the years and to them I am very grateful.

Hi Lisa,
Part 1
This may be a few years late but here is the story of Johannes Jacob Klinck Carpenter born around 1700 or thereabouts in Wuerttemberg, town unknown but who resided in the village of Plattenhardt from the early 1700's to 1754 when he left for America. One marriage record indicates that his father's name was Johannes Georg Klinck but nothing is known about him and his family before Plattenhardt in the 1720's THere are no Klincks in the Plattenhardt parish before the 1720's and significantly Johannes Jacob Klinck appears to be the earliest one recorded in Plattenhardt. If there were other Klincks in Plattenhardt before that there is no record of them. So where my 5th great grandfather Jacob Klinck and his ancestors came from before he lived in Plattenhardt is unknown to me. As there are numerous KLinck throughout Wuerttemburg and in the areas neighbouring the village of Plattenhardt, I have little doubt that his kin had resided in neighbouring communiities in Wuerttemburg for!
many years before 1700.
An update to my earlier postings from last 10 yrs as things become a bit clearer to me regarding who is who in this family. My great-great-great-great-great grandfather was actually Johannes Jacob Klinck, a carpenter who resided from the early 1700's to 1754 in the village of Plattenhardt. His first wife I discovered not so long ago in the Plattenhardt parish records was Anna or Anna Maria Bopplen who he married in 1724. His son from this first marriage of Jacob's is Johannes Jerg (Georg) Klinck who was baptised in 1734 according to the parish records and he apparently is my great-great-great-great grandfather. Jacob's first wife Anna Bopplen died around 1748 and Johannes Jacob Klinck "widower" married his second Margaretha Fichter in 1747 in Plattenhardt. They have five children during the period from 1748 to 1754 and in 1754, Wuerttemburg records indicate that Johannes Jacob Klinck, carpenter of Plattenhardt near modern day Stuttgart, his second wife Margaretha and their s!
urviving children: Michael b. 1748, Frederick b. 1751 and Georg Ludwig b.1754 are purchasing a passage on a ship with the intent of going "to Pensylvania".
Subsequent tax and church records in Dutchess County in the then Province of New York however indicate that by the late 1750's Jacob Klinck and his three sons with Margaretha Fichter had settled in what was then known as Crum Elbow District not far from the towns of Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck in Dutchess County,NY. Dutchess County Lutheran church records indicate that by the early 1760's or before that his son Johannes Georg Klinck from his first marriage born abt. 1734 had arrived in Crum Elbow District to join his father Jacob Klinck
and his half brothers on the farm where Jacob is listed as tenant from the late 1750's for the next 20 or more years. Crum Elbow District records shows that Jacob's sons Michael and Johannes Georg Klinck (in America later simply referred to as John Clinck) owned cattle in the 1770's and that they were distinctively tatooed for indentification so as not to mistake them with their neighbours. This is the story of my Klinck family up to about the time of the American Revolution.
Part 2 to follow.

Hi Michael,
Here is long belated and updated answer to the question of where your Clinks came from. THere are a number of Klinck/ Clink families that settled in North America in the 1700's and 1800s. And thhere are indeed Clink families in Scotland likely of18th century German origin some of whom likely settled in America in the 1700's or 1800's. Most of the early Clinks or Klincks that settled in America in the 1700's however originated from Germany itself. For at least one family that settled in the Province of NEw York in the 1750's, a number of them changed their to the more anglicized Clink.
This is a corrected update of my original posting of my Klinck/Clink family origins which may prove helpful based upon my latest research.
I am a descendant of Jacob Klinck born abt. 1700 or thereabouts, a carpenter from the village of Plattenhardt in what was the Duchy of Wuerttemberg in Southern Germany near the present day town of Stuttgart. Jacob married his first wife Anna or Anna Maria Bopplen in the year 1724 and they had a son Johnannes Jerg (Georg) Klinck who according to the surviving Plattenhardt Parish records was baptised and probably born in 1734. This would be my great-great-great-great grandfather Johanne Georg Klinck referred to later in Colonial New York as Johannes Georg Klinck, Johannes Clinck or simply John Clink.
Jacob's wife Anna Bopplen died sometime after 1737 and the Plattenhardt parish records tell us that Jacob Klinck "widower" married his second wife Margaretha Fichter in the year 1747. Then in 1754 Johannes Jacob Klinck, carpenter from Plattenhardt and his wife Margaretha Fichter and their three surviving sons Michael b. 1748, Frederick, b.1751 and Georg Ludwig b.1754 according their Lutheran minister had purchased passage on a ship and had gone "to Pennsylvania". This entry can be found in the Adolf Gerber List of Emigrants from Wurttemburg included in "Pennsylvania German Immigrants 1709-1786" Edited by Don Yoder. Gerber copied this information in the 1920's from the old records in Germany. In 1754 many germans from Wuerttemberg left for America because of the economic hardships they were facing at this time.
This Klinck family likely arrived in Pennsylvania in 1754. Unfortunately th only surviving ship record listing a Klinck in 1754 is for a Michael Klink who was a passenger aboard the "Nancy" which left Holland Sept. 14, 1754. However I was able to locate Jacob Klinck, his wife Margaretha and their sons Michael, Frederick and Georg Ludwig beginning in the 1750's in Dutchess County, NY not far from the towns of Poughkeepsie an Rhinebeck,NY. It seems by this time a significant settlement of Wuerttemberg, German immigrants was taking place in this area of Dutchess County. Jacob Klinck or Clinck is recorded from the late 1750's in the Crum Elbow, later Charlotte District, Dutchess County tax records where he was a tenant farmer. He and his family with Margaretha Fichter was by the early 1760's joined in Crum Elbow District by his son from his first marriage to Anna Bopplen, my great-great-great-great grandfather JOhannes Jerg (Georg) Klinck b. abt. 1734 of Plattenhardt. Records ar!
e scarse but I did find two records from the Crum Elbow/Charlotte District of DUtchess County indicating that Jacob's son Michael b. 1748 and his son John Clinck b.1734 had livestock in the 1770's. At this time they appear to be farming with their father Jacob.
Jacob's son Frederick Clinck b.1751 appears in a local militia list for Coopers Rangers of the Dutchess County Rangers circa 1775 or 1776, a rebel militia. Frederick Clinck, a loyalist however deserts the militia and joins a loyalist militia in New York City in 1777 according to British Military records and dies in 1778. The youngest son Georg Ludwig b. 1754 is believed to be the George Klink who married Catharine Graham in New York State and became a tailor for many years in the town of Albany in ALbany County, NY.
Perhaps because of the desertion of brother Frederick, it would seem that shortly after the beginning of the Revolution, Jacob's son Michael b.1748 and his older half brother John Clinck my ancestor end up leaving Dutchess County and going farther north along the Hudson River into Coeymans Township just south of the town of Albany in Albany County. According to Albany County records by they year 1780, Michael Clinck is a farmer at Aquetock in Coeysmans Township. That year one record tells us that Michael Clinck farmer has be aprehended with a group of local farmers and accused of being "Tory" sympathizers. Perhaps the local Albany County committee assigned to look for citizens loyal to King George were aware that Michael's brother was a deserter and gone to New York City where the British Headquarters was then located. IN the end however Michael and the other Coeymans Farmers were released after paying a bond.
John Clinck does not seem to have stayed out the Revolutionary War and there are no known records of him having served on either side. And as Frederick died and had no descendants there are no Klincks or Clincks from this family that made it to Canada after the War and were recognised by the Government of Upper Canada as loyalists despite the fact that one Thomas Clink is listed on the loyalist list. Neither John Clinck born abt. 1734 or his son Stephen or James who later settled in Upper Canada received loyalist status in Upper Canada. Contrary to popular belief only the half brother of my ancestor John Clinck (Johannes Georg Klinck), Frederick Clinck (1751-1778) fought for the British side in the American Revolutionary Was and as mentioned died and had no descendants who could or can today claim Upper Canada Loyalist status.
Getting back to Jacob's son John Georg Clinck or Klinck following his arrival in Dutchess County, NY joining his father and half brothers in Crum Elbow District he along with his father Jacob in 1763 and 1764 join the Congregation of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Wuerttemberg, New York a few miles from their farm. Wuerttemberg was the name of commnunity established by Germans from Wuerttemberg and they soon after established this lutheran church in their community. My ancestor John Georg Klinck married his first wife Theresia probably here in the 1760's and their children Catharine b.1766, Margaretha b.1769 and Jacob Klinck 1770-1801 are recorded in the old baptismal book of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Wuerttemberg in Dutchess County, NY. It appears that Theresia died by 1773 or thereabouts as the next baptism record for a son John Clink in the year 1774 at St. Pauls records by Johannes Georg Klinck records his wife as being Phoebe Thornton. While the spelling is atroc!
ious it is clear that this is Johannes Georg Klinck and second wife Phoebe Thornton's first son John Clink who resided in New York State firstly and later joined his younger brother William in Pennsylania before 1830. Following this we loose the subsequent Clink children in Church records in DUtchess County, but birth dates do fortunately survive for them in one way or the other. I have over many years managed with the kind assistance of others, pieced together for most part the subsequent family of my great-great-great-great grandparents John Georg Clinck and his second wife Phoebe Thornton. There are no doubt many Clinks or Klinks out there who descend from John Georg Clinck of Dutchess and Albany County, Ny and his second wife Phoebe Thornton and likely even more who have no idea who their original Clink or Klinck ancestors in New York State were. John Georg Clinck and Phoebe Thornton and their family have for many years now been lost to us. Here was my attempt from seve!
ral years to piece this family back together as I understand it.
1.John Clink b. 29 May, 1774 in Charlotte Precinct, Dutchess County, NY died after 1840 in Pennsylvania m. Elizabeth abt. 1799 probably in Coeymans, Albany County, Ny.
2. David Thornton Klinck b. 25 December 1775 in Charlotte Precinct Dutchess COunty, Ny died November 17, 1823 Connersville Township, Fayette County, Indiana m. Ruth Smith abt 1799 in Orange County, NY She was born 1781 in Deer pare, Goshen Township, Orange County, New York State and died APril 1837 in Shelby COunty, Indiana
3. William Clink b. 1777 in Dutchess COunty, Ny died about 1840 in Auburn Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania m. Margaret Hanson abt. 1799 in Steuben Township, Oneida County, New York State
4. Mary Clinck born at. 1780 in Dutchess or Albany County, NY died 1869 Coeymans Township, Albany County, NY married Benjamin Terry of Coeymans Oct. 22, 1802 in Coeymans or Bethlehem Township, Albany County, NY
5. Stephen Clink b. 2 August 1786 probably in Coeymans Township, Albany County, New York died 4 April 1871 in Esquesing Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada married Christianna Utter of Coeymans Township in neighbouring Bethlehem Township on 30 July 1809 at the Bethlehem Reform Church near Coeymans Township.
6. Sarah Clinck born abt. 1787 probably in Coeymans Township, Albany County died 1809 in Coeymans Township, ALbany County (Buried Terry family Burial Ground Coeymans) married John Terry of Coeymans Township abt. 1807 One daughter Phoebe Terry born 1809 married Isaac Coonley
7. James Thornton Clink born July 3, 1788 probably in Coeymans Township, Albany County, NY died abt. 1866 in Stoney Creek, Saltfleet Township, Wentworth County, ONtario m. first wife Margaret Houck abt. 1813 in ALbany County, NY married second wife Mary Barker 31 May, 1835 in Saltfleet Township, Wentworth COunty
7. George Klink born 28 January 1791 probably in Coeymans Township, ALbany County New York State died 16 December 1861 in Vallejo, Solano County, California married Joanna Baker 24 February 1814 at the Bethlehem Reform CHurch in Bethlehem Township, Albany County near Coeymans Township.
There was one other son and daughter Phoebe born in the 1780's I think who apparently died young and did not apparently marry. Dont know anything about them. Anyways this is the family of my ancestor Johannes Georg Klinck born abt. 1734 in Plattenhardt, Wuerttemberg in southern Germany later of DUtchess and ALbany COunty, NY as best I understand it so far. I am also familiar with the known grandchildren of this Johannes Georg Klinck who lived in 1800's in America and Canada. Appreciate all the help that has been given me over the years by descendants of Johannes Georg Klinck (John Clinck). Thank-you very much

Hi Michael,
Here is long belated and updated answer to the question of where your Clinks came from.
