Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Hi fellow Clingen listers. A bit of gossip--Rootsweb has been bought by
ancestry.com, which is apparently the same as myfamily.com. They say
nothing will change, everything we are used to will still be free, maybe
just enhanced. Who knows. The main reaction among list administrators
for rootsweb seems to be horror, but, perhaps this is unnecessary, we'll
see. But I wanted to share. Also the results of our latest research
will be forthcoming soon, I just need to organize it a bit.
We do have a bunch of names, we have a lot to research with now, and it
is going to be a really fun trip. So hello, bye, more soon,
Marsha Brown

Dear Clingen family, I came across a cemetery listing in Allegany County PA
which had a nice list of Clingans in it. Thought I would pass it along to
the rest of you. The cemetery's name is:Chartiers Cemetery; CarnegiePA the

Dear Marsha, Thanks for your support, I did not know the rules and have
told the director or whatever she is that I will not break the rule anymore.
However, I am glad I was able to get a gospel message to everyone on the
list before I found out. One time is enough to make everyone guilty before
God and to cleanse my hands of their blood at the Judgment. Ezekiel 33:3.
Thanks again. Love Wally

Wally, Pam, and Clingen cousins. Wally can do whatever he wants, Wally
can post whatever he wants to our list. That is my position and I see
no inconsistencies here. I let you post three times before I pointed out
that your posts were not appropriate for a list with Clingen as the
topic. Wally however as a senior Clingen and a proven family researcher
has earned the right to post things slightly off-topic if he so chooses.
I consider this a part of getting to know Wally. I revere his decisions
and welcome any and everything he decides to post to this list. I also
posted privately my views to you Pam, and let you know my feelings and
what I was going to do, and you apparently did not extend Wally this
courtesy.
This whole thing might not have come up had you Pam first not posted
stuff inappropriately. Anyway I love the way you have got your sig file
set up--it's quite a good solution. Wally, I am looking forward to your
next post. Clingen cousins everywhere, Clingen-L is not going to be a
battleground for petty squabbling, of that I can assure you. Now, on to
our future of recovering the past. Your faithful list admin, Marsha

Marsha and I went to meet the brother of our biological father a
couple of weeks ago. This is my first chance to write a bit about
it.
My father was Marshall Clingen (-an?) Brown of Wichita, KS. Marsha
traced his parents to Okarche, OK (sp?). But we knew nothing about
the rest of the family until we met our uncle and his wife. We had
had no contact with the paternal side of our family from the time we
were six and seven.
My uncle, also a Clingen relative of course, is an absolutely
delightful man. His name is Bill J. Brown. His wife of all these
years is Myrna. They have two living children, Bill Jr. and Barbara.
Their youngest son, Curtis, died a few years ago.
Bill was a Marine in WWII (landed on Okinawa). He has had a very
solid career in Boeing Aircraft, worked on the Saturn rocket for
Boeing and ended that phase of his career in computers when they were
brand new and took up whole rooms. He was also - looking at the
early photos - a DROP DEAD GORGEOUS HUNK! Still cuts a good looking
figure :-) Bill was so joyous to see us after all these years of
never knowing where we were or what had become of us. He welcomed me
and Marsha back into the family, which felt great!
Bill has lots of family photos which Marsha and I scanned and will be
researching. I'm betting there's a Clingen in there. Bill did not
know where the Clingen came from but we note that our grandfather -
Bill and our dad's father - has a "C" middle initial - or is that our
great grandfather, Marsha? We're hot on the track of that letter
"C"! I'm betting that's the Clingen that the first son got named
after. Odd that so many people immediate in the family don't know
about the Clingen in my dad's middle name - or in a relative's name.
To the prayer request: Uncle Bill is battling cancer in his lungs
and adrenal glands. I know that science has proven the power of
prayer in several recent studies (I am a healer myself - I did not
need proof). I am requesting any of you so inclined join us in
prayer for Uncle Bill and his family. He really wants to beat this
and live out a sassy old age :-)
Thanks and blessings,
Pamela :-)

Well, Wally, this is going to be interesting... to see how my sister,
the list moderator, responds to your posting this forwarded post that
is not related to the list purpose. Just the other day she felt
she had to rein me in on this list - even though she and I co-founded
it - from sharing the web addresses for saving the rain forest and
the hunger site even though I tied the sharing of the addresses very
cleverly into the next seven generations of Clingans. I thought I
was quite on track with the list purpose!
I'll let Marsha say whatever she wants to say to you since she is the
list moderator :-) I have a request to make of you though, dear
Clingan relative: when you forward a post, especially when it has
been forwarded before - PLEASE take a moment to edit all those
addresses you have to scroll through before you find the actual
message. It only takes a moment with your scroll and delete button
:-) Thanks, cousin :-) Peace be with you.
Pamela :-)

The more I think about my sister's question the more I think she has got
a good point. Why did William Harrison Brown and Mary Elizabeth Howard
Brown, (m 1904), name their firstborn son, "Marshall Clingen" Brown?
Their firstborn's birthday was 1911, and their only other child, was
another son, born in 1921 and
named after the father: William James Brown. You would have thought the
first child would be named after the father. Especially since they
waited a long time to have him. We have returned from a family visit
with lots of pictures and information (though no one is sure where the
Clingen comes from.) We will be posting this stuff soon, as it relates
to a family somehow related to Clingens. But I wanted to put out this
question now, before an organized attempt is made toshare the other
info.
Partly because I had to tell my own sister that she was posting
inappropriate stuff to
our Clingen list, and also, it is just a darn good question, and one I
suspect may lead us to some interesting answers. More soon,
Marsha Brown
