Well dear cousins, on this list and the main Clingan list, on egroups, I
wonder if anyone would like to get an attachment with a scanned in
letter C. This would be a file of a scanned hankerchief and I suspect
the C is for Clingan. It is my grandmothers -- Mary Elizabeth Howard
Brown. I got excited when I realized the hankerchief had a monogrammed
'C' because I have still to figure out my Clingen connection. This lady
named her son Marshall Clingen Brown, her first born son, and yet no one
alive has a clue as to why. I may have already found clues on our
lists, and just not studied everything hard enough.
Another thing, -- has anyone thought about consolidating the Clingen
lists? I would be okay with this, I just think we need some kind of
presence at Rootsweb. I can tell that the likely people to take over
Clingan-L are already very busy. It was just a thought, no reason to
mind a quiet list, but if anyone was interested, we could discuss it.
More soon, take care,
Marsha Brown

Subject: [clingan] Clingen/Clingan
Hello. Sue Maxwell of Arizona contacted me and gave me this address. I am looking for information on my family name CLINGEN. I was born in Cape Town South Africa in April 1948 My Father Cyril Henry Clingen was also born there as were his parents. He died quite young, but I recall him talking about our ancestors having a Scandinavian background. I have very little information on my roots and extended family up until recently when I discovered the name has an Irish history. Keith Clingen of Canada has contacted me and I await fresh information from him.
I would love to be placed on your contact list and to share any information. As far as I can gather, I appear to be the only living Clingen(apart from my wife and daughter) in South Africa.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
JOHN CLINGEN
