Hello CLINEBELL researchers. If you want to compare notes, I'd love to break out my files and discuss. With lots of research and a little speculation, here is part of my line:
st Generation - Johannes Michael KLEINBEHL, immigrated from Bavaria to Philadelphia in 1754. I suspect like many Germans at the time he was attracted to the Shenandoah Valley in VA by the possibility of a land grant.
nd Generation - George KLINEBELL, appeared on tax/census lists in Augusta Co., VA from 1790 to 1820. Bought a town lot in Middlebrook, VA in 1799. Estate settled in 1826. Was his wife Sarah or Barbara?
rd Generation - David H. CLINEBELL, married 1827 to Susan Jane CRIST, and took family across the Alleghanies. Will probated in Greenbrier Co., VA (now WVa) in 1849. Widow and children move back to (and scatter around) the greater Augusta Co., VA area.
th Generation - Lucie CLINEBELL (single mother), born and died (1932 at 88 years) in Greenbrier Co., but an adventurous journey moving: 1860 in Lexington, VA, 1865 in Point Pleasant, OH (brother was there), 1870 in Baltimore, MD, then back home. Maybe a Civil War related story?
th Generation - James A. CLINEBELL, lifelong resident of Greenbrier Co., WVa, born 1875, raised on Miller's Mountain with four other siblings, and died 1930 in Rainelle. Farmer, coal miner, and lumberman. Married 1901 to Eva NICELY.
