Thanks for any info.
We first published our MONROE COUNTY, TN HERITAGE BOOK in 1997. We sold over 1,600 books. Over the years we've had many requests for a reprint. Our book has a beautiful hard cover and has 571 pages including a surname index. The book was published with Don Mills, Inc. and printed by Walsworth Publishing.
The book will be a reprint so therefore no additional family articles.
We are exploring the idea of reprinting the book for the express purpose of donating any proceeds for the benefit of our Monroe County, TN. Archives. As you can see from this site on our newly formed "Friends of the Archives Historical & Preservation Society", our mission is to purchase materials needed for the preservation of our valuable Monroe County records. We are in the process of trying to obtain tax exempt status.
Before we can think of reprinting we have to presale a certain amount of books. At this time we are only trying to get an estimate of how many books might sell. When we are reasonably sure that we can sell enough to cover the cost, we'll send out an order form for the pre-sale.

Mary,
I am interested in knowing more about the DNA project results. I am from the OH Clines. Unfortunately, I do not have a male Cline relative who could participate. My line is John Cline (born VA then moved to OH in the very early 1800's or possibly the very late 1700's - he was a blacksmith ), David Cline (born in Loudon County, VA and died in Noble County, OH), Isaac Cline (born in Noble County, OH and died in Guernsey Co., OH), Walter Matson Cline (born in Guernsey County, OH and died in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN), and Walter Matson Cline, Jr. (born and died in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN). My father was aware of the NC Cline family but always said we were not related. My Clines were German speakers and for many generations married fellow Germans.
Does the OH Cline DNA project include any of the descendants of John Cline? I suspect that George Cline of Washington Co., OH was a relative of John's (possibly a brother).
DNA is being done from the N.C. Clines and also the Ohio Clines and they are not
matching perfect. So they had common ancestors. If you can help on this line it
would be most appreciated.
Mary Harbinson
Cathy,
I only concern was why was my husbands DNA matching the 12 point with the Ohio line, since I am certain that his 4th great grandmother never left N.C. so there had to be common ancestors between the two groups now that the Clines that were in N.C. are matching the Ohio Clines this makes more sense to me. I am sure Harley and the people who are involved in this can tell you much more than I know. Mine is a very complex problem I am working on trying to figure out who Marcus Harbinson's father really was. I would think that any one that does DNA named Cline will fit into the certain groups and somewhere down the line can be figured out who was related to whom. I am just delighted to see some matches of N.C. to Ohio which helps explain my situation for my husbands line, I will be the first one to tell you I do not understand all this DNA results, For over 3 years I had NO matches for my husband at all then all of a sudden when the Clines started doing DNA test there were perfect 12 point matches. So this told me Marcus was never a Harbinson and should have been a Cline. So how all the other lines of Clines are related I have no idea, I had a goal in mind as to find who Marcus was. So I am sure the more Clines no matter from what branch is tested that the experts can figure out how they fit with each other brother wise. My goal was to try to get as much information on the N.C. line so I could accomplish my goal. When I started the last thing in my mind was he would match people in Ohio. So I think my husbands DNA helped spark the fact that especially these two lines were closely related.
I am just out here with the rest of you try to figure out exactly who I married? LOL because he is not who HE thought he was.

Actually, most all of the NC Clines and the Ohio Clines match perfectly on the 12 markers. Of course I am asure it depends on which NC Clines and Ohio Clines you are talking about. In this case the ones from around Hickory NC and the ones from around Monroe/Noble/Guernsey and Washington Co. I think you are right. I have John as being a brother to George but never had much on him. I wondered where the line went to.

HERITAGE:
Heritage is defined as those values, traditions, events, beliefs and relationships in a person’s life that combine to give rise to one’s character. Heritage is the defining elements of one’s life that tells who they are and how they should live. Heritage then is the profile of our values, priorities and beliefs and rules we are guided by in our daily lives. Our Heritage begins in the life experiences of our ancestors and we will pass them on to our descendents, long after we are gone. Collectively, the heritage of a society gives rise to its culture.

Anyone recognize this Cline or have info in their data base? Always
hope :) Nothing known before John A. or C. (mid name may be Abraham)

One of the most exciting things was a couple of years ago my sister Syble and I went to MO and outside Aurora we found the cemetery where some of our Cline ancestors were buried. The old cemetery is in a pasture, and you go through tall grass to get there, but the cemetery has been kept inside and there are these wonderful old tombstones. I felt so blessed to stand where my Cline relatives had once stood. My Grandmother Ida Daniel Cline (Mrs. Robert E. Lee Cline; these Clines were from NC) whose mother was Louisa Cline Daniel was born in Aurora, MO. (those Cline families were from TN) We took pictures and my sister has really worked hard at getting all the information on a website. I have it at home and will send it to you. I'm at work now. By the way my daughter and son-in-law live in Piney Woods Baptist Camp and his folks live in Lufkin. Their last name is Boyd. His sister works at the hospital in Lufkin her name is Tanya Lindsey.

Claudie, I live in Lufkin, Tx. and two months ago found out my Cline connection was also through N.C., Tenn., and finally Mo. I visited the Waters cemetery in Mo. and actually stood at my G Grandparents graves. (Lucy Wolf Long and William Norris Cline). A cousin found me on the internet and now we're sharing pics and info and the door to the Cline family is opening. So I encourage you don't give up hope. After searching 35 years my search has paid off and feeling revitalized I'm beginning a new the Tenn. branches. Good luck in your search. Marie

I'm Claudie Cline Thompson and I live in Lindale, TX ;North of Tyler. Believe me sorting out this Cline bunch is not an easy task. My sister is working hard on it, my brother has had the DNA testing, but I think we will be in heaven before we get it sorted out. We are from the NC, TN, and MO Cline family, but our information said we are from one of the three who came from Germany in 1770.
Good Luck,

DNA is being done from the N.C. Clines and also the Ohio Clines and they are
not matching perfect. So they had common ancestors. If you can help on this

Hi Gayle,
If you have any male relatives from that Cline still living, might want to consider a Dna test. I checked my database for James Alexander but did not have one, most of the Ohio line comes out of Monroe County Ohio via PA.

CLINE, but Sophia Kettenring/Catron's line goes back to Hans KETTENRING
b 1565 in Lanstuhl, Germany and wife Margarita METZEL. The private
family publication has the children of John CLINE and Sophia
Kettenring-CATRON, messed up pretty badly - nicknames and proper names
are listed as seperate individuals - someone did the best effort they
could with very limited data.

I am not finding a James Alexander Cline in my data base but like you say, sorting them out and trying to figure out which lines they came from is a problem, Sounds like you might be off the Ohio line, have you joined the Cline website, If you haven't it would be worth while to do and see what happens, It includes Clines from all the States. Harley Dakin is the web master for the site and at first there was very few if any N.C. lines on there now we are beginning to join forces and figure this out especially with the DNA. I would advise every Cline to join email harleypdakin(a)myfamily.com<mailto:harleypdakin@myfamily.com> and join us to help sort all this out. I am sure he would love to have you and you can meet up with a lot of other Clines.

I know very little about my Cline family but they came from PA to OH and IN
and wound up in MI. I would love to know more but, as far as I know, there
is no connection with NC Clines. Of course, I really have no way of knowing
that.
My Clines were James Alexander from PA who moved to MI. He fought in the
Civil War for the north. He had my grandfather in 1876 and died soon
afterwards. That's about the extent of my knowledge.
Good luck with your search.

Good Luck,
Claudie Marie Cline Thompson
