Does anyone know anything about this John Cline, a

Thanks for any assistance.
Thank you very much for this information. I will add it to my data base
along with my other information. I have found so many conflicting evidences
but the scenario you give sounds best.
FYI, here are some of the notes I have in my genealogy computer program:
In "German Speaking People West of the Catawba River in NC 1750-1800" by
Lorena Shell Eaker it is stated that no one has any idea who this David who
married Sarah Salome Carpenter could be. She claims he was born 1766 and d.
12/20/1828 in nc. The marriage took place ca 1786. John S. Yoder II disputes
the fact that David is a proven descendant of Christopher Cline, or is
linked in any proven way to Sebastian. Information from LeRoy & Alieda
Northrup states that he is a descendant of Sebastian, but no proof is given.
Also, in an article by Ms. Ambrose B. Cline in "The Heritage of Cleveland
County, Vol1-1982 she states that David was the 3rd son of Christopher. She
gives as sources: Lincoln Co. Library & Mr. Robert Gidney, County Historian.
Ciscero Cline's book states David was a son, but was born in 1769 per aol
correspondent suzy724. He also lists Michael, Solomon, and Salley as
children. It is stated that Salt Lake has this on micorfilm 1036116. Per an
email letter from Cecil VanDyke (Clydevd(a)aol.com), Mrs. Esther Bigham of
Vista , Ca. located the John & Anna (Bingham Wilson) Lackey family Bible.
showing Sarah Cline Lackey as the dau of Sarah Carpenter Cline & David Cline
of Lincolnton, NC. Samuel & Sarah Cline Lackey, John & Catherine (Mull)
Cline & Jaacob Cline are buried at Knob Creek Cem. In the same area is
buried David Kline, d. 12-20-1828. [see my written explanation].
"Mrs. Esther Bigham of Vista, Ca., located the John & Anna (Bingham Wilson)
Lackey family Bible. In it she found: `Samuel Lackey son of James & Jane
Winters Lackey was the father of John Lackey Father & Family herein
Recorded: Sarah Cline Lackey was the dau. of Sarah Carpenter Cline & David
Cline Lincolnton, NC & mother of John Lackey.' The Bible record firmly
establishes the relationship."
"At Knob Creek Cem. is buried Samuel & Sarah (Cline) Lackey, John &
Catherine (Mull) Cline, & Jacob Cline. In the same area is bur. `In memory
of David Kline died Decr. 20th 1828 Aged 62 years.' Space was left for his
wife's grave beside him, but I located no marker for her. Noe of these
Clines had been traced in Ciscero Cline's CLINE HISTORY. I was faced with a
dilemma: If David Cline died in Ga., who was the David Kline at Knob Creek,
b-1766, d-1828? My & Bob Carpenter's conclusion: Two David Clines. The one
buried at Knob Creek was the one who married Sarah Salome Carpenter."
Thank you again,

20 Jun 1845)
Jacob CLINE (abt 1801 - 16 Aug 1842)
Sophia CLINE (bet 1800 and 1804 - )
Notes (Individual)
General: David is born in 1766 and dies December 20, 1828, per his
gravestone. He receives first communion from Rev. Arends at Warlick
settlement in Lincoln county on October 26, 1783. He marries Sally
Carpenter (Zimmerman) in Lincoln county about 1785. Jacob Zimmerman's
1803 will identifies David Cline's wife, Sally, as his daughter.
David's mother Margaret Ramsour Cline dies on January 5, 1789. Within
a few months, David leaves Lincoln county. On February 20, 1789, he
buys 300 acres on Knob Creek in Rutherford county from his wife's
relative, Christian Carpenter. Both David Cline and Christian
Carpenter live in Lincoln county at the time of this deed. David, in
Rutherford county, claims 40 acres adjoining his own land on Knob
Creek on July 1, 1790, and the land is granted on July 9, 1794. He
claims another 100 acres on Knob Creek on April 10, 1804.
Cicero Cline confuses this David with another David (1.3.1.2) from
Cabarrus county, but does correctly identify the sons of this David
(1.4.1.2) in Rutherford county as John Cline and Jacob Cline. Their
father and son relationship is confirmed in the records. On April 30,
1821, David sells half of his original 300 acres to Jacob Cline, and
John Cline witnesses the deed. David's sons, John and Jacob, are
buried near him at Knob Creek Methodist Church. David has the only
Cline family in Rutherford county. Therefore, the three Cline women
in the Rutherford county marriage records in 1812, 1820 and 1825 are
David's daughters. In addition, the Lincoln county marriage records
identify another probable daughter, Catherine, who marries in 1814.
This Catherine is not a daughter of any Lincoln county Cline and is
presumed to be David's fourth daughter who is enumerated as a child
in his household in the Rutherford county 1800 and 1810 census.
David's family of two sons and four daughters is verified in the
Rutherford county 1790-1820 census.
David Cline dies on December 20, 1828 at the age of 62, per his
gravestone at Knob Creek Methodist Church cemetery. The gravestone
next to him, presumably his wife, is broken and no inscription can be
seen. Also buried near him are the following members of his family:
Sarah Cline Lackey (daughter), born October 25, 1793, dies June 20, 1845.
Jacob Cline (son), dies August 16, 1842 at age 41.
Sarah A. Cline (Jacob's daughter), born July 17, 1834, dies October 27,
1852.
John Cline (son), dies October 13, 1845 at age 55.
Catherine (John's wife), born April 15, 1796, dies July 22, 1881.
Jacob Cline (John's son), dies September 16, 1845 at age 18.
Mima Cline (John's daughter), dies about 1831, age 1 year 11 months.
David's widow, Sally (Salomey) Carpenter (Zimmerman), is listed in
the Cleveland (formerly Rutherford) county 1850 census as Sally
Cline, born 1766. In the Cleveland county 1860 census, Sally is
listed as born in 1768, is an invalid, but still lives in her own household.
David and Sally Cline's children are in the Rutherford county civil
and church records and the census of Rutherford county and Cleveland
county. They are the only Cline families in Rutherford county.

Does anyone have access to the cline Family Book by clifton Williams.
Looking for info about Jonas Cline. He moved from the Mohawk Valley to Richland Co., OH and then to IL where he died.
Thanks.

Does anyone know where this Roseberry Cline might be buried? He is not Roseberry M Cline as I have often found he was confused with. He died in Wirt or Wood Co. In West Virginia and thought to be be returned to Monroe County or Washington Co. for burial. Any help appreciated.

Hi Marlene,
Ou line of Cline originated in Pennsylvania here in the states in mid
1700's. I am also the Y-Dna surname project Administrator. While we are
unlikely to show connecitons in documentation, we might find something in
the DNA end that might be of value, provided you have a Male Cline from your
line still living. I know none of our Cline line that have been identified
in Ontario.
Best,
Harley

Is anyone researching CLINEs in Indiana Co? I have a major brick wall. My
oldest ancestor is William M. Cline, b ca 1817 in Indiana Co (or so his Civil
War enlistment papers indicate). That's the ONLY source that narrows down
where in PA he's from. I presume he told the truth!
But I have been unable to connect him to any families in that area. I have
been told it's possible his family was in one of the nearby counties that
eventually became Indiana Co.
All I know is that at some point he (and parents/siblings?) moved to Belmont
Co, OH (across from Wheeling, WV). He married Nancy NORMAN in OH in 1838,
and they raised 13 children. He only had 2 sons, named William and David.
Can anyone help? I have a huge amount of descendant info I'd be happy to
share, but I'd sure like to move this line back!
