My William Cline was born 8-7-1802. I do not know where, to whom or any
siblings. He married Charlotte Hargus in Pickaway county Ohio (7-20-1828).
She was born 10-4-1807: I do not know where. They had at least one child.
My ancestor, Joshua DW Cline born 2-15-1832. He had several children listed
below. I have Joshua DW Cline serving in the civil war and dying a few
months after discharge. I have his wife's pension papers and quite a bit
more. I have Joshua's death and burial info. I have nothing for William
after the birth of Joshua. I do have a possible record of him in 1838
giving a son (David) into servitude. And a possible record of him with a
possible brother in Eaton Ohio in 1850 census. Joshua's widow Matilda Glick
Cline moved to Illinois near Champlain and was there in 1870 census. She
later took some of the kids and moved to Springfield or near there. She is
buried there. She also remarried there.
The children born to Joshua DW Cline and Matilda Glick Cline are:
William Cline b. 11-19-1855
Benjamin Cline b. 11-25-1857
Lucinda Cline b. 9-1-1859
John Cline b. 9-30-1860
George Taylor Cline b. 3-15-1862 d. 6-13-1943
Harriet Cline b. 7-10-1864
Regards,
Larry Cline

Thanks for your offer (and sorry it's taken me so long to be back in
touch --
I've not been on the net much the past week or so). Here's some info on my
William M. CLINE:
According to his Civil War enlistment papers, he was in the 1WV Infantry,
enlisted in 1864, was 43 1/2 years old at the time, and was b in Indiana Co,
PA. (Census reports generally indicate he was b in PA; this is the ONLY
source that narrows it down. I would hope it's reliable since it's his
input, though birthdate is questionable) There was a Solomon CLINE family
living in Indiana Co, but it looks like he didn't have a son named William
and that the family moved back east vice west.
Occupation: Shoemaker
Census info (all from Belmont Co, OH):
1850 age 33 and b in PA;
1860 age 43 b in PA;
1870 age 54 b in OH
1880 age 63 b in PA
Daughter's death certificate shows her father b in PA
-----
According to the Belmont County Report of Deaths, William died of blood
poisoning on 26 March 1891 at age 71 years 3 months -- this would make his
birthdate December 1819 vice the 1816/7 depicted in census records or 1820/1
in enlistment records
-----
According to the Belmont Co marriage records William was 21 at the time of
his marriage in May 1838 to Nancy NORMAN, which would indicate he was b in

Paul, below are some notes my dad made when he went to Westmoreland about
what looks like a land transaction:
15-418-1823
Release Jacob Cline & Hannah Franklin Twp. to John Painter Frkln Twp ld in
Frk twp 125A being estate of John Painter & now belonging jointly to his
heirs Jacob & Hannah.
It sort of sounds like Hannah might be the daughter of John Painter.
As for Henry Cline... the one I am looking for had a son "Henry Daniel
Cline" born in Westmoreland Co. in 1824. Henry (senior), is the one I am
looking for. We have some evidence that his wife's name was Sarah Weaver,
but that is not certain.
I hope the above information is of some help.

The Jacob and Hannah Cline you found is the family I'm researching. Jacob
died 5-25-1820 and the property settlement followed his will which I have.
Would like to see anything you have or can tell me. I found 2 Henrys in the
family. Henry born 7-5-1834 died ? and Henry H. born 1-23-1880 died
11-13-1918 in France. Are you looking for either.
Also as to Christian Cline born 3-11-1790. Not sure whether Christian or
Christiana but in either case not in Jacob's will. I assumne not living as
other children are mentioned. Possibly could be the Christian in Bokes
Creek, Logan, Ohio in the 1830 census.

Sharon,
I keep finding the same names in Belmont as in our group when I do web
searches, but it never works out. Our Isaac is well documented and married
Elizabeth Hill in Bokes Creek in 1831. Still, if you give me any details
you have on your William, I'll copy you anything I see in future which
might be yours. Did he make it to the 1880 census? What did his children
report then as to father and mother's origins? Where was he for 1850-70
census reports, for a more accurate b. date and wife's name? That sort of
stuff...

Hello,
I am searching for any information about Peter or Patrick CLYNE, most likely
of county Roscommon, Ireland. Peter was married to Bridget MCGRAIL and
fathered Patrick CLYNE (and possibly other offspring). Patrick was born in
1836-1837 and emigrated when 16 in 1851 to New York, most likely on the
Princeton from Liverpool. Patrick settled in New Haven, Connecticut, and
married Hannah Sullivan in 1863. Patrick later became a police officer for
some 25 years with the New Haven Police department. Any information about
this family would be appreciated. Thanks,
Robert Thomas

This is probably a longshot, since I'm not sure if my line is a little
"older" than what you're looking for, but I'll take a chance anyway since
there's a couple common names.
I've not been able to find the parents/siblings of my William M. CLINE, b ca
1820 (plus/minus a few years depending on source). According to his Civil
War enlistment papers, he was b in Indiana Co, PA., but I've not been able to
find any other CLINES there.
He (his family?) moved to Belmont Co, OH at some point, and he married Nancy
NORMAN in 1838. I noticed that in the Belmont County Marriage register, it
shows an Isaac CLINE getting married to Mary Mossburgh on 9 Jul 1835 and a
Margaret Cline getting married to Reuben T. Ferrell on 25 Feb 1836. I wonder
if these could be William's siblings, or at least relatives?
Does anything look familiar? I've got lots of info on descendants which I'd
be happy to share. Look forward to hearing from you. Sharon

Any chance that Christian is the Christian who appears in Bokes Creek,
Logan, OH in the 1830 Census? He seems 30-40, with a 60-70 female, a 5-10
female and 1 to 4 more males, depending how you read the image. (There's a
light 2 in the 15 to 20 column, which might have been scratched out, and a
probably genuine 2 in the 20-30 column apparently altered from a 1, but
could be the reverse. Unfortunately, the totals aren't on the copy.)
All Clines vanish from Bokes Creek for 1840, but Michael Cline from PA is
in Perry, next twp south, in 1850, and that might be the same land as there
was a boundary change.
If there might be a connection, where was that family in Westmoreland? We
are looking for a PA/MD/VA>OH family with brothers Samuel, Jacob, William
and Isaac I., sisters Mary and Pheobe, and perhaps others. Parents were PA
father, VA mother and Isaac was probably borne nr. Hagerstown, MD.
kb
I have a Samuel Cline b. 1777 in PA married to a Jane..
By 1850 Sam and children are living in Bokes Creek, Logan Co., Ohio
Their children, all born in VA. were:
Elizabeth (Betsey) b. 1808 married 1829 in Fayette Co., Ohio to Jacob
Emerling
Christopher b. 1812 married a Lucinda or Lydia
Mary J. b. 1822 married a Sam Gibson
Samuel b. 1826
David b. 1829 married a Rebecca
In the 1850 Logan Co. census there is also a Peter Cline living with the
family.
Anyone connect?
Thanks,
Since there seems to be a lot of activity with the roll call I thought I'd throw my Philip into the fray to see if there are any connections to other Cline researchers. My Philip was born ca 1775 and he is listed in the 1850 census as being born in Virginia. By 1820 he was living in Petersburg, Columbiana Co., Ohio (just a stones throw from the Pennsylvania border). I suspect that his father-in-law was George Fitterling/Featherling of Washington Co., Pennsylvania (and there was a marriage in Frederick Co., VA Oct. 17, 1799 for a Philip Cline and Polly Featherling). Philip and family moved from the Columbiana Co., Ohio area and went to Ravenna, Portage Co., Ohio where Philip died in 1850. I'd love to find some one out there who can connect with my Philip!
TIA,
Jan

John Kline age 11 and William Kline aged 8 were living with Michael Kline
aged 50 in the Elizabeth Hundred section of the Frederick County, Maryland
1776 Census. I think I saw the boys on a school attendance roll a few
years earlier from Hagarstown. (originally Elizabethtown, name formally
changed to Hagerstown 1814) Kline/Klien/Klein was commonly morphing to
Cline over the next decade or two. John and William Cline show up with
families in the Conococheague Hundred, (next door to the Elizabeth Hundred
but then in Washington County) in the 1800 Maryland Census. John has two
under 10 boys, one 10-16, and an under 10 daughter . Parents were both in
the 26 to 45 bracket.
There was a John Klein/Kline/Cline who enlisted in the German Regiment in
PA, but in one of the MD companies. When the regiment was disbanded, he
enlisted in the Maryland Militia for the balance of the war. Paymasters
couldn't spell it the same way twice (or there were more of them). Mary M.
got his half pay pension in 1834, in Frederick, MD, courtesy of the
Treasurer of the Western Shore.
Another family with a John Cline sold up when the patriarch died and
decamped, right about 1800, migrating from MD to Ontario with a cast of
thousands. (Daughters took their husbands etc.)
Bear in mind that, if you are standing in Hagerstown, it's about 6 miles to
PA or WV, then VA. State of birth gets a bit iffy here. We are looking
for a John Cline of about the same time and place. We'll let you know what
we find.
Here are my Clines:
David Cline b 1796 in either VA or MD, died 1857 in Noble County, OH,
married Elisabeth DeLong. I believe his father was John Cline, but I have
not obtained hard proof of this. Their children were born in Noble County,
OH:
John 1819
Abraham 1821
Sarah Elizabeth 1823
Thomas 1825
George 1828
William 1830
Mary 1833
Isaac 1835
Effy 1838
David 1840
Isaac Cline married Sarah Ann Matson and their children were:
Alvaretta (Allie) 1861 (sometimes misspelled as Alpharetta)
Emma Evalean 1864
Ida Bell 1866
Louissa 1870
Walter Matson 1873
The family lived in Guernsey County, OH, in the Oxford Township.
I have quite a bit of information I can share, much of which came from the
family Bible. I'm especially interested in locating the family of Ida Bell
Cline (married Fred Breasock) that moved to Canada. Ida had one daughter who
survived, Margaret, and I assume it was she who moved to Canada sometime
around the Great Depression.

I really do need you to send me those names and ages again.
I will be happy to go out there next week, to Xenia, and look.
I'm almost living in your old back yard.
Do you have any idea, at all, what church they might have gone to?
Maybe the marriage records will be a clue to the clergyman's name and I can
go from there.
I've been thinking of going to a Greene Co.. Genealogy meeting anyhow,
if you send me what you have I'll carry it with me to the next one, ask
around, and see what printed information they have.
Nancy
Dear KB,
Oh, I'm sorry that I gave you a start about Caesar's Creek.
Xenia is almost in walking distance from here.
Do you remember the Xenia tornado?
I saw it from the steps of the Beavercreek High School.
The Xenia kids attended high school here until their school was repaired.
And my former hairdresser lives on Paintersville Road.
I have been down it many times to take our camper to Caesar's Creek.
We just take 35 to Xenia take the bypass, and turn south. I know it by sight
and don't remember the route number, 42? Then we get off on Paintersville
Road to get to the campground.
My husband says it's ten or twelve miles to Xenia. Long walk.
Xenia is the county seat of Greene County where we live.
In fact, you could type our address, 2439 Banyon Drive Beavercreek 45431 in
the computer and ask it to show you how to get to Xenia and you would see how
close it is.
Send me any information you have that would help me find your family records.
beyond what you put in the last E-mail. It would be a joy to help.
I remember when I went into the library in Marysville, Ohio, looked at the
marriage records for the year my Mary Jane Powell got married and there it
was the first marriage of the year. My father hadn't been able to find it in
Marion County.
That's because Marysville is in Union County.
I'm sixty-seven, going to be sixty-eight on Valentine's Day and as I have
gotten older I have found that family and helping people find their families
means more and more to me.
So, send me any other information that might help. I'm living very close to
where your family lived and I'll be going out there on Monday or Tuesday to
enjoy looking.
Nancy
The dates don't jibe well. From what I have been able to gather my ancestor
John was born ca 1784, but I don't know where for sure. I had assumed that
he was born in MD.
I only have a death date for Phillip and that was 1846 in Tazewell Co. IL.

That was momentarily depressing, all those things lost in flooded attics,
but a quick look at a modern map showed that all is well. The area of
interest is about 9 miles further up Caesars Creek than the head of the
reservoir. Land and most other records will be at Xenia. Look on a road
map for Exit 50 off Interstate 71 to 68. About 4 miles north towards
Xenia, a small road goes east to Paintersville, then north across Caesars
Creek to New Jasper. If you look here:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgreene/grne-twnshp.gif you will see the modern
township layout. I don't have the 1820 boundaries, but I think that Silver
Creek was split to create Jefferson, and Caesars Creek originally went
north to the same limit, was split the other way to make New Jasper, and
met Sugar Creek somewhere on the west. There were a variety of churches in
the original township, and it might be extremely valuable to find where the
Clines worshipped. That's not just for tombstones and records, but it
gives a first choice regarding the denomination to be searched where they
came from, VA/MD/PA. Might be something to combine with antiques hunting
in a pocket that seems off the beaten track.

Dear KB,
I'll see what I can find. The Caesar's Creek area is an a huge reservoir now.
I have been fossil hunting in the spillway many times.
The houses in the area were flooded.
The lake is huge.
I think it's actually in Warren Co. now, but you know how county lines
changed during the time.
New Lebanon is the county seat of Warren Co.. I go there antique hunting.
It only takes half an hour to get there.
I'll go see what they have at their courthouse.

Does anyone have a connection to the following family? I know that there are
a plethora of Johns and Georges in the Cline family.
John and Elizabeth were married in Virginia. They had 13 children that I
know aboout. The eldest son was born in Virginia. The next 8 were born in
Ohio. I don't know the counties in either state. The rest of the children
including my great grandfather were born in Tazewell County, Illinois.
John and his brother George bought Public Land there in 1824. According to
an early Tazewell County History the father of John and George was named
Phillip Klein who took the family to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia from
Maryland.
Needless to say any help would be appreciated.
