I have a feeling the Archibald you mention is the one in my family line. I
have no info on his parents, however.

Marlys,
I know this is a little slow in coming, was just reading through some old
mail.
You ask about Daniel and Joseph. My Mattocks were in Northumberland Co at
the same time as George Cline. I believe that either his son, brother,
nephew, etc. could be the father of my Jacob Cline who's dau. Mary. prob. m.
Richard Mattocks.
I bring this up because Richard's father's name was Daniel, his brother was
Joseph and another brother Peter.
You wouldn't have an odd Sarah, Margaret or Prudence would you?

The 1820 census of Ross Co., Ohio shows a John Cline (foreign born before 1775) & an Nicholas Kline(born before 1775). Both have daughters in the age group of my 3rd great grandmother, Nancy Cline born about 1802 somewhere in Ohio. Nancy married Evan Taylor 9 May 1824 in Ross Co. Other children that could possibly belong in these families are Benjamin, Catherine, David, Elizabeth, Henry, John, Margaret, Sarah, William who were all married in Ross Co. between 1814 - 1835. Does anyone have any information on the families of John & Nicholas that might help me in my search? Any clues appreciated!

Hi All,
Thanks for the input on "Polly". I knew that just didn't phrase it very
well.
I have 2, yes 2, 4th g-grandmothers named Mary, both married to a Mattocks,
one to Richard, one to Jacob!!!! Don't have a clue what the relationship of
Richard and Jacob is either. Because of the Will of Jacob Kline I think it
is the wife of Richard, I can't discount though Jacob's Mary as his son and
Margaret's daughter named a son Jacob Cline Mattocks.
Doubt I'll sort this one out.
Joyce
I just found this on the Lost Leaves Photos site at
http://www.geneagraphx.com/lostleavesphotos/lost/0000003c.htm
It is of the above Cline family taken Bell's Studio, E. 4th St. Pittsburg,
KS
Copies can be obtained from:
googe(a)juno.com
They aren't my Clines, but I just thought I'd pass this on.
My American Heritage Dictionary confirms this. "Polly- [variant of Molly,
pet form for Mary]"

Hi Joyce,
George Cline Sr., son of John Cline of N. Germany, had a brother
named Jacob. George joined the Revolution from Sunbury, North-
umberland County. George was born in Germany about 1740 and
emigrated here with his father probably between 1740 and 1750. He
was married in 1770 in Ulster Co. NY. He had brothers named John,
Jacob, and Joseph. Pennsylvania Bounty Lands for Rev. War vets
were located in Crawford Co. PA, among others.
I'd say it's almost a certainty that your Jacob Cline and George Cline
were either brothers or cousins.
The Monroe Co. OH USGenWeb site has more on George and Jacob.

Subject: [CLINE] Jacob Kline/Cline
Hi All,
On the subject of Jacobs, I have the following, can anyone help?
Crawford County, PA Will Book A:53, will of Jacob Kline, made 12 September
1816, registered 7 April 1838, Jacob Kline, farmer of Crawford County.
Mentions beloved son John, beloved daughters, Hannah Road, Polly Mattocks,
and Eliza Heffer. Anny Road (relationship not given) to receive the Greman
bible in possession of son-in-law Caleb Roads. Niece Sally Roads.
Executors Richard Mattocks and Samuel Henry. Signed with mark.
Codicil, 8 May 1818. Mentions loving son Jacob, loving son Frederick, and
daughter Katrina McCommon, each of whom is to receive $1.00.
Can anyone connect to this Jacob? Richard Mattocks is my 4th great
grandfather. I believe the Polly Mattocks is his wife Mary. They named a
son Jacob and their dau. Margaret named her son, my 2nd g-grandfather, Jacob
Cline Mattocks.
Richard joined the Rev War from Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA. He was
still there in 1790 Census so I feel he must have married there.
Thanks for any help,
Joyce
Joyce,
It's likely that your Polly is Mary -- Polly was a common nickname for
Mary. I have a g-g-g-grandmother who was a Mary and she was known as Polly.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth
