Hi All,
I'm sending this again because I'm not sure it went through the first
time. With the downtime at RoostsWeb a lot of messages got lost in
cyberspace or somewhere. If you already received it I apologize. I'm
assuming our list is up and running again.

Below is a portion of the 1850 Forsyth County census as shown on the
1850 Forsyth County NC Census Project website at
http://users.erols.com/fmoran/forcen.html. They have added the maiden
names of the spouses when known. Note a couple other Clinards in the same
area as Davis Clinard and Rebecca Phillips Clinard. Right next door to
Davis and Rebecca Clinard are Elisha and Leah Davis Shields. Did Davis
Clinard get his name from an association with the Davis family? Does
anybody know what family this Leah Davis was from? Did Davis name one of
his sons after Elisha Shields?
There were other Clinard connections to a Davis family. I don't
know if it was the same Davis family. Prudence Ellen Clinard, daughter of
Davis Clinard Sr., states in a letter in the 1930's she was named after
"some of her father's people". In 1815 a Catherine Clinard (born about
1795) married Samuel Wellborn. Samuel Wellborn was the son of Major General
Wm Wellborn and PRUDENCE DAVIS. What, if any, connection is there with
this Catherine Clinard whose mother-in-law was a Davis? Was our Prudence
Clinard named after Prudence Davis, and if so, was she one of Prudence
Clinard's "father's people" ?
Were John Shields and Elisha Shields brothers? John Shields married
Rosannah Clinard (daughter of a Peter Clinard and Sophie Sosaman in
NC). I recall Rosannah Clinard Shields moved to Ohio or somewhere around
there. Rosannah Clinard had a brother John Clinard who died in Georgia.
There was a Susan Shields who married Isaac Teague. They had a son
John Teague. Was this the John Teague who signed Davis Clinard's marriage
bond?
How were William Clinard and Davis Clinard connected? They were
practically neighbors.

I have a Joseph Clinard in my family tree that I cannot locate. He was born
in Decatur Co, GA 6/8/1865. On the 1870 Decatur Co, GA census, he is listed
as Josephas, age 5 with all other known family members. He is also listed as
Joseph on the 1880 Decatur census. His father, Jacob Livingston Clinard,
died in April 1900. On Jacob's final distribution to his heirs, recorded on
11/25/1902, there was no Joseph listed. But there was a "Genee J. Clinard
and children" listed as heirs. I've no idea who they were either, but
possibly could be a wife and children of this Joseph(as. I don't know what
came of him or of Genee J. Clinard and children. They are not found in later
records in Decatur Co, GA by me so far.
