The farthest back we have been able to go with our Clifton line is around
1845 but in South Georgia to a Robert Selatheil Clifton who had 14
children. He was a farmer and Baptist Minister.
I would like to find out more the Clifton line dating back to the late
1600's and early 1700's in Stafford County Virginia.
Good luck everyone.

Hi Pat:
A First cousin thrice removed was married in Grant Co Wisconsin
in 1838. I always thought that he was from Camborne Cornwall. His name was Richard Clifton and he married Mary Ann Chalders.
They went to Placerville Ca in 1852. Ring any bells. Cousin Jack Clifton in sunny Florida

Hello List.
One of the weaker parts of my tree concerns the Cliftons of New
Jersey. I descend from this line through Alexander Jacob Clifton
(1849-1925) who married Mary Ellen Dillon and moved to Utah. Using
the Pennsylvania Town Records, I can take the line back to George
Clifton (d 1811) who is supposed to be the same George Clifton who
appears in Revolutionary War rolls and is married to Nancy Knox. Its
here that the line becomes murky. George is supposed to be the son of
a John Clifton and Mary Blankson, and John the son of Simon Clifton
and Ann Unknown.
The trouble is, I have never seen a source of any kind for the Clifton
family beyond what I was able to prove on my own through the town
records. Is there any work that details the New Jersey Cliftons
further, or is anyone else seriously researching this line? Does
anyone have any stronger information on George Clifton/John
Clifton/Simon Clifton?
Thanks,
Daniel Maxwell
