Hello. I've been doing some genealogy research on my wife's family, and have run into a dead end that I wonder if anyone can help me with. One of my wife's aunts on her mother's side was named Helen Kostrzewska. As a child, she lived in the Detroit, Michigan area. On May 22, 1948 she married a James Clifton- or more accurately, James Addison Clifton II. Helen and James moved to Alaska and had two children, both boys. Jimmy Clifton (James Addison Clifton III) was born May 21, 1951. Tommy Clifton (Thomas Michael Clifton) was born January 29, 1954. James Clifton II is believed to have died sometime around around 1970, after which time we think Helen was remarried- to a Mr. Siegel and lived in the state of Washington. Helen Clifton Siegel (Kostrzewska) died in Washington on April 15, 1975. She was survived by a sister (my wife's mother), a brother, a half-sister, a half-brother (all of whom all lived in Michigan), and her two sons Jimmy and Tommy who are believed to still be living somewhere on the west coast of the US- perhaps in Washington or Alaska. I am trying to locate James Addison Clifton III (Jimmy), Thomas Michael Clifton (Tommy) and/or members of their families so I can fill this gap in my wife's family tree. Does anyone on this list have any clues regarding their whereabouts?
I have been attemping a times line thing for all the Clifton info that has
appeared lately. It really connects in so many PROBABLE ways, and makes it
seem more possible that my WVA Clifton are brothers or cousins of the whole.
Interesting. Turley>Conrey>Clifton.

There must be a connection in our Clifton families if yours were from
Senatobia, MS. My Clifton's lived in Lafayette and Tippah Counties, MS, both
Northern counties. The Clifton "kids" ( my great grandparents) were born in Hardeman
County, TN 1844. My 2nd great grandfather was named Wilson Clifton...ring
any bells?
Love to hear about it....Joan Weeks Martin

My father John Richard Clifton was born in Senatobia, Ms iDec 10th, 1894.
Leaving his parents in Ms. he
ended up in Memphis, Tn. I've located his draft registration card filed in
Memphis and he is also listed on the Senatobia census for 1900 at the age of
eight.. I found two people that may be connected to him. John C. Clifton and
his wife Sallie. Could be his parents. This serch alone has taken me almost six
years. My mother
Helen Riley Clifton divorced my father while pregnant with me therefore I
had never met my father. Would
welcome any other news .If I find any more I'll send it on.
Thank you for the come back

Julie,
I don't know these Clifton's but my gfather, William Connie Clifton had a brother named Granville, or Claude Granville Clifton. Gfather came from Washington Co. Va. to Danville, Va., married and raised family there. My father died very young and we didn't stay close to the Cliftons so my info is limited.
I did find a wonderful picture on the Clifton Chronicles web page of agroup of Clifton men and a Claude Granville is there. Must be a relation. There is a town in that mountain area of Va.on the divide with W. Va. named Clifton Forge and I have often wondered if it was named after our Cliftons.
My daughter found info on a group of Washington Co. boys, including many Cliftons, who fought in the Civil War. They truly were boys being one of the youngest groups to fight and were haled for their bravery, routing Union troops many times their numbers. When Lee surrendered at Appomatox, the Washington Co. boys were said to spit and walk away, never laying down their arms, so technically never surrendered.
Well, hope this helps with your Granville. Must trace further back, I'm sure.

Reply to Julie Niezgucki,
In reference to your Clifton Ancestors from England, I too have
Clifton ancestors from England. My GGG Grandfather William lived in
Bexhill, Sussex England. Several of his children came to US in the
early to mid 1800's, mostly to upstate New York and I can account
for them. Depending on the part of England your ancestors came
from, they might have been connected prior to your Williams birth in
1774 and his father Henry in 1747? I don't have any information
prior to Henry B in 1747.

Okay, thanks. This is an absolute brick wall. My father was born in Dec 1899 in Anniston, Calhoun Co., Ala., but his mother, Naomia Pike ("Noma") was from Cherokee Co. and was 16 when he was born. From what my father told us, "Joe" was a railroad engineer who was killed in a train wreck when he was an infant and indeed, he and his mother are living with her parents, Esau Pike & Nancy, in Cherokee Co. when the 1900 census was taken.
Thanks.
Betty

Hello,
My name is Julie Clifton Niezgucki and my Cliftons came from England and
Michigan. My fathers name was John Granville Clifton. I was wondering if
anyone knows where the name Granville comes from. My grgrandfather was
Charles W. Clifton b. Ohio in 1838 and his father was William Clifton who
came over from England when he was about 22 yrs old. Have no birthdate for
him, m. Abigail Ann Locke Sept 27, 1837 in Cuyahoga Co. Ohio, William died
in 1848 in Michigan when he was crushed to death by a falling building.
Anyone know of these Cliftons?
