Jim, I don't have any info to help you, but hope you may be able to help me.,
My lne of Clifton's come from unknown Co. in NC, his name was also Nathan
Clifton b. abt 1800 NC, his mothers name was Mary, unknown last name, and father
believed to be Nathan Sr., this Clifton family moved to Indiana in early
1800's, Nathan Jr. married Eleanor Chance, daug of Pernel Chance, who's family came
from Deleware /Maryland area, believed to be Kent Co. De. by way of Guilford
Co. NC to Ind by 1820's.. I believe Nathan Sr. died in Ind, and Mary m/2 a
Scarlett, and both Nathan Clifton Jr, and the Chance family moved to Van Buren
Co. Ark by 1850. Nathan Jr had 6-7 daug's and 1 son Nathan III, I would guess
my Nathan is somehow connected, as Nathan is not a real common name back then,
and keeps repeating. I'd appreciate any help or sugustions you could offer.
Thanks--Evelyn

Re: Thomas Clifton, age 25, is on the passenger list for those being transported from London via the Primrose 27 July 1635. He is believed to be the same Thomas Clifton born 1610 to Nathan Clifton and wife (Unknown) Washington in England. They named another son John Washington Clifton who came to Virginia in 1657.
Nathan Clifton and his brother-in-law (Unknown) Washington were accused of conspiring with the escape of King Charles I in 1649 and were killed. (This Washington is in the lineage of President George Washington.)
(This information is taken from the research of Ottis B. Ringo of Muncie, Indiana in 1928-1935, which is in the Library of Congress. Ringo was the husband of a sister of my grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Clifton.)
My problem is proving that this Thomas Clifton was the father of the Thomas Clifton who was born about 1640, died about 1708, and was the well documented owner of "Harts Delight" plantation in Sussex County Delaware. I am still searching for the evidence.
Jim Thomas.
THOMAS NATHAN CLIFTON was born 26 December 1758 at Raliegh, Wake County North Carolina and died 8 March 1864 at Marshfield, Webster County Missouri. About 1820 Nathan and his large family migrated from North Carolina to Lawrence County Tennessee where they lived until about 1838 when they moved on to Missouri.
I descend from Nathan's son Marmaduke who had married Sarah Wisdom and remained in Tennessee.
I seek PROOF as to the ancestry of Nathan Clifton. Most give his parents as Absalom and Narcissis Nancy Jane Marmaduke. Some give Benjamin Franklin as his father and Absalom as his grandfather. Others say that his father was Ezekiel, the son of Absalom. There seems to be little dispute that Absalom was the son of Robert Clifton who was the son of Thomas Clifton of "Harts Delight" plantation in Delaware.
Another difficulty is tying Thomas Clifton of "Harts Delight", born about 1640, died about 1708, to the Thomas Clifton, who at age 25 sailed from Gravesend, England 27 July 1635 on the Primrose to Virginia. Some give the latter Thomas as the son of the earlier but I need PROOF.
If anyone one can fill in the missing links to this puzzle I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
