This index -(different then the ones I mentioned yesterday) PA, NYC, NY,
DC, DE, NJ & MD. It begins with the oldest Clifton, has columns for
relationship held on the census, ie: self, mother, other, dau, son, gender,
Race , state born and state in for the 1880 census. There are 13 pages
here. I would like to save myself a bunch of typing so will give you the
year listed they were born, state born and state in 1880. IF you find one
and want what I am leaving out, write me, include the date born. I won't
get to all of them in one sitting. Please don't ask me for any other
states or more on them then what I have already stated above. OK? Faith

I was sent 1880 Cliftons for the above states. I'd like to type all for the
list, but don't have time
right now. So if you have some in these states write me and I'll see if
yours are included in these. Any replies from me will be posted to the
list. Faith

Hi Anne,
Welcome to the list, I joined a few months ago. Here
are some very good sites that are 'free' and supported
by publically donated information (volunteers maintain
the sites). A few might be connected to a paid
source, but the info is free...that's all that counts.
There must be someone on the list that has web site
addresses of Ships Lists of Passengers and Port of
Entry info? I'll give you the ones that I have...it's
a new area for me.
Oh...by the way...I'm looking for info on:
Robert Clifton Atkins, c. 1865 - 1914. Might have
been born in Ranaoke, VA. Died in Apache, OK. Married
Elizabeth 'Eliza' Booth c. 1890. Robert Clifton
Atkins was native american...his mother or father
might have been from the Creek Nation/possibly
Cherokee. Does anyone know of any family groups that
have 'Clifton' and 'Atkins' living close by or
related? (there might be 'Booth' families associated
as well).
Here you go Anne...good luck!
http://www.cyndislist.com/topical.htm
A huge resource...look under 'Immigration,
Emmigration, and Migration' for the following:
Canals, Rivers & Waterways
Ellis Island
Immigration & Naturalization
Migration Routes, Roads & Trails
Passports
Ports of Departure
Ports of Entry
Railroads
Ships & Passenger Lists
'Ports of Entry' and 'Ships and Passenger Lists' would
be a good start...unless you go directly to 'Ellis
Island.' There is a database for that...I'm checking
my maternal family line through there:)
You must look carefully through all the choices...
Consider 'Canada' as a possibility for immigrants from
Europe at the turn of the century...and then migration
into the states.
These sites have some international records:

Have fun! Laurie

I am a new "subscriber" to your List. My name is Anne Baxter from New Zealand. I am currently researching the CLIFTON name in Scotland, in conjunction with my DONALDSON research. This is my first posting.
Trying to trace the descendants of CHRISTINA CLIFTON and THOMAS DONALDSON who were married on 19 July 1893 in Newington, Edinburgh, Scotland.
All I know about CHRISTINA CLIFTON ********** is that she was born on 28 November 1871 (5 Spence Place, Edinburgh) and her parents were THOMAS CLIFTON and EUPHEMIA THOMS (THOMPSON?)
The 1881 Census places the family living living at East End, Wemyss, Fife, Scotland as follows:-
THOMAS CLIFTON (Head) aged 36, born Methil, Fife
EUPHEMIA CLIFTON (Wife) aged 31, born Markinch, Fife
CHRISTINA CLIFTON (Daughter) aged 9, born Edinburgh *********
THOMAS CLIFTON (Son) aged 7, born Buckhaven, Fife
EUPHIA CLIFTON (Daughter) aged 5, born Buckhaven, Fife
ALEXANDER CLIFTON (Son) aged 3, born Buckhaven, Fife
JOHN CLIFTON (Son) aged 1, born Buckhaven, Fife
Also living in the family home according to the 1881 Census was:-
ANDREW MACKIE (Boarder) aged 18, born Markinch
The above are the parents and siblings of CHRISTINA CLIFTON. Does this family sound at all familiar to any CLIFTON researchers on the List? I am ultimately trying to find out what happened to CHRISTINA after she married THOMAS DONALDSON in 1893. Did they have any children, and if so are there any living descendants.
Even any living descendants of her brothers and sisters would be wonderful contacts to make. PLEASE HELP - Any suggestions or recommendations as to where to go from here would be gratefully received.
Regards Anne Baxter - New Zealand
