I received this from a Clifton researcher. Does anyone know who this William
W that married a Margaret Wilbarger father was. Would appreciate any
suggestions, so far I cannot tie him into our Owen Co KY Cliftons. Another
note he moves to MO and found in Clark and Pike Co, we have two Cliftons
Mitchell and Wyatt that move to these Counties by 1830's the rest of the
Clifton's that moved to MO went to Randolph Co after 1850. Thanks for you

Barbara,
I have been gone out of town for a few days and just got your reply on
William Henry Harrison Clifton. I was hoping that we could make a
connection there but it didn't work out.
My William W. Clifton married Margaret Wilbarger, the daughter of John
Wilbarger on 2/10/1823 in Bourbon Co., Ky. Their first son, Josiah, was
born there 2/16/1824. The tax rolls indicate that William was taxed in
Bourbon Co. in 1823, but there are no tax records in 1824. We next find
William and
Margaret in Ashley, Mo. where he bought a parcel of land from his
father-in-law and
sold it in 1832. He then purchased land in what was then Marion Co. and
later became known as Clark Co. They had two daughters that were born in
Pike Co. and a son
William Marion born in Marion Co. William and Margaret were both dead by 1835,
and the children were raised by their uncle, Matthias Wilbarger and came to
Texas in 1837.
Just thought I would pass this info on to you to see if there might be a
connection to your Clifton's in Mo. I would love to be able to find more
info on William W. before he married Margaet Wilbarger. Any info that you
might come across would certainly be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
Thanks Lorraine for wading through the Thomases. I'm SO excited to start
digging on this fellow, and can't help but wonder if our English geneology
has been so elusive because of the "Clefton" spelling.
Thanks so much for your time!

Hello Listers and Cathy
Checked out entries on the British Vital Records and found so many
Thomas Cliftons Christenings recorded in Nottingham. The first one
maybe of significance which is near your approx birth date. The others
entries are 1668,1673,1678, 1685, 1688, 1691, 1693, 1696, 1710, 1719
1726, 1729, 1734, 1738, 1740, 1762, 1786, 1797. All Christenings and
all Thomas Cliftons and recorded in Nottingham except two.
CLEFTON Thomas
Christened 1609
Recorded in Saint Mary, Nottingham
Father John Clifton
NOTE the spelling!!
Regards Lorraine
Having hit a dead end on Andrew Clifton I thought I'd
check the LDS Family Search site (having never been there
before)
The IGI record came up with:
Andrew CLIFTON, Born: 1805 Of', Randolph, ' Virginia
Parents: Father John Clifton Mother Mrs Mary Clifton
Batch number :F858734 Sheet: 34
Looking at John CLIFTON it came back with the same batch and sheet
Looking at Mary CLIFTON it came back with a misc date of about 1780,
Nicholas, 'Virginia.
I then toddled down to the family History Center and found out that
this all comes from a microfilm 1396148, but the Family Search CD
only had the tidbit that the information was contributed "by a member"
Now the question is if I should ask for a copy of the microfilm to
be sent to the local Family History Center. (I have never looked
at one of these things and havn't the foggiest idea what information
is on them)

John. Thanks, Tammy

Lorraine - thank you for your offer. All my Cliftons here in the States are
pretty much accounted for, so I'm left to reach farther back. I'm looking
for:
Thomas Clifton, b. appr. 1610 Nottinghamshire, immigrated to Virginia in 1635.
He may have been related to, but was not the son or grandson of the Rev.
Richard Clifton, also from Nottinghamshire and immigrating near this time.
If you have the time an inclination to check on Thomas Clifton, I'd be most
appreciative!
Thank you
Cathy Ridley
Hello to you all from New Zealand
I hope to have the BVR CD's back again today so can look up the Cliftons
for those who like myself have elusive rellies.
Any enquiries please put on list and I will reply to the list as well
then everyone can share the information. If anyone would like other
surnames looked up then okay email me - not a problem
Depending how many births are listed I may put them on the list as I
did with the Marriages.
Regards
Lorraine
just thought I'd post my queries again in case someone nw has joined:
Austin Clifton, born 1794/1797 in Amherst Co, VA. He married Eliza Wood
(who was born 3/1804 in Franklin Co, VA) 1/21/1824 in Franklin Co, VA. He
died 12/22/1868 in Lee Co, VA and she died in 1908 in Lee Co, VA. Does
anyone else have anything new on Austin or his father, Jonathan

Is anyone researching the CLIFTON family of Northampton Co., NC
Southamton Co., VA and York Co., VA? Would love to hear from
you. Does anyone know how to contact Ann Clifton Wilson who
was in Texas?
Thanks,
Dianna
To all my Clifton friends, our Clifton Family History Book Phase I is now
completed and I want to thank everyone for the information that has been
shared.
It contains our family history starting with Thomas 1650 DE/MD and follows
the 3 brothers, Edward, David & Noah, that moved to Owen County Kentucky
1803. I have included a detailed history on the children of these three men
and an outline of their children. I have included copies of "original"
wills, land records, marriage records etc.
If anyone is interested in receiving a copy please contact me. I wish I
could say I could send it for the postage, but I cannot afford to do this.
The book is over 100 pages and the cost of copying, binding and shipping will
run close to $25.00. I would like to get an idea of how many copies to make
so please drop me a line and let me know if you are interested.
Also if you would like to donate a copy to a research center let me know.
For your information we have sent a copy to the Owen County Historical
Society, Owenton Library, Library in Houston, Wise Co.,TX, Clifton Hill
Historical Society & Randolph Co., MO and LDS in Salt Lake.
The Clifton history is on my web page

Hello Cliftons:
Someone recently sent me a question about a Granville or Granvil Clifton,
which I have misplaced. I found the following in Montgomery County, IN.
Hope this is useful:
Cemetery notice:
Granvil L. Clifton b. 1884, d. 1949, buried Masonic Cemetery, Union
Twp., Mont. Co., IN.
Death Notice:
Grancil L. Clifton d. May 21, 1949, age. 65.
A Granuel Clifton, 1890 Census for Montgomery County, Union Twp.
Gary Clifton
California
***********************
Well, Granville is one of mine... He was the first child of John W. Clifton
and Minnie Landis.
John W. was the second child of Thomas J. Clifton and Mary Davis. (Both are
buried in the same cemetary as John W.
Thomas J was the second child of Andrew J. Clifton and Nancy Stewart.
Thomas's origions are rather fuzzy - coming from West Virginia through
Kentucky then into Indianna. Andrew was born in 1803, but I havn't been able
to trakc him further...
