This researcher thought her William tied into our Owen Co., KY Clifton's. I
have only one William born 1845 and it is not this William. I know there were
William's in the Casey Co., KY Clifton's could he be one of yours? Any MO
researcher know who he belongs to? I know she has been trying to locate this
William's parents for some time. If someone finds a connection please write
to her and CC me I would be interested in knowing the connection. Thanks

My grandfather Sidney J Clifton was the first born son of William. Sidney was
born on Oct 7, 1867. My father Percy, born in Yoncalla, Douglas County,
Oregon was Sidney's son. He was born in November 1909. I am seeking to learn
how and when William and/or Sidney traveled from Clark County Missouri where
they are listed in the 1880 census to Multnomah County Oregon where Sidney
became a streetcar motorman. Can you help me with any info about my kin? I
don't know when they left Kentucky or when they left Missouri. If I can help
you in any way, please tell me how.

I received a page from a private family book on the SWANSON
family of North Carolina from Jim Zell. Jim has obtained
the permission of the owner of the book to make this
information public.
"What We Know About the Swansons From 1761"
Richard and Olive SWANSON lived in Edgecomb County,
North Carolina in 1761 as he sold land on Swift Creek to
George WIMBERLY September of the same year. Bought
land from William PROCTOR on Dec 22 of the same year.
Richard and Olive's son, John SWANSON, was born
April 14, 1761 according to his declaration filed with his
application for pensioner of the Revolutionary War in 1832
when he was 71 years old. Richard sold his property in
Edgecomb County in 1771 and John declares that the family
moved to Wake County, North Carolina when he was about 12
years old. The war department record of his service in the
revolution shows a draft of three months and an enlisment
of one year from Wake County. After he returned from the war,
John married Elizabeth CLIFTON, daughter of John CLIFTON
and granddaughter of James CLIFTON. Their first child,
James SWANSON, was born Dec 10, 1784 and their daughter,
Nancy in Sep 1786. There are records in Wake County showing
that Richard and Olive SWANSON sold two tracts of land in Wake
County in 1789. One to Harvey SANDERS, who in 1777 signed
the marriage bond of William and Elizabeth STALIONS SWANSON.
(William SWANSON was John's brother) We also find that Richard
and Olive SWANSON were still in Wake County when the 1790
census was taken in March of that year. Considering the foregoing
facts, we believe that Richard and Olive SWANSON were the parents
of John SWANSON.
John SWANSON had the following brothers: William SWANSON
married Elizabeth STALIONS and they were the grandparents of
Richard SWANSON, father of Isaac and Bart SWANSON who
later lived in Towns and Union Counties and both raised large families.
Then there were Richard SWANSON and Phillip SWANSON
who married Jane DODD in 1795. We have no record of this
Richard's marriage.
John also had three sisters that we know about: [my note:
Jim and I believe Penninah SWANSON is not John's sister,
but his daughter!] Nancy SWANSON married James MCGINNIS;
Penninah SWANSON married William WALKER and went to Missouri;
Dicie SWANSON married Peter EDDLEMAN and they had two sons;
Hall Morris EDDLEMAN, M.D., Gastonia, North Carolina and John Peter EDDLEMAN,
road contractor, Gastonia, North Carolina.
John SWANSON's wife, Elizabeth (CLIFTON) SWANSON, died and
he later married Sarah MCALLISTER Apr 5, 1817. They had two sons;
Luther, who never married and William Rufus SWANSON who married
(Margarett) Adeline TRIBBLE.
