I am posting this to the list to set the record strait. I have been
contacted by several researchers that are researching Absolum that married a
Narcissis "Nancy" Jane MARMADUKE . A lady doing research several years ago
had this line tied into my DE line. This was an error my Absolum died
unmarried in 1739 (see below) Thanks Barbara
- -----------------------------------------------------
My Absolum is the son of Robert & Mary (Edmonds) Clifton but he died in 1739
5 M iv. Absolam CLIFTON was born after 1700 in Maryland/Delaware.
Research: He was shown on his father will, but apparently did not inherit.
The only other record is his will, dated April 4, 1739. Heirs: brothers
William, Ephraim, John; sister Mary Townsin.
Page 409.--__ _____, ____. Jacob Conrad's will--To son, Jacob, testator's
dwelling place; to daughter, Barbara, the place she lives on (wife of Charles
Hedrick); to daughter, Elizabeth, the place she lives on, bought of
Christopher Thompson and James Skidmore, wife of George Fisher: to daughter
Mary Conrad's two children, Margaret Barlet, John Clifton, land bought from
Saml. Caplinger; to Jonas Friend, a debt to be paid; son to sign his three
sisters their deeds by his Earship. Teste: Wolerey Conrad, John Skidmore,
George Kile. Proved, 19th March, 1776 (translation by George Carpenter) by
the witnesses. Jacob Conrad qualifies administrator.
I have been researching my Coonrod(Conrad) lines and during my research in
Pendleton Co WVA (Agusta Co., VA) I found some CLIFTON records and it seems
that the two families lived near each other. William CLIFTON married widow
Barbara (?) Wanstaff and later there is a record for a John CLIFTON.
>From "Family History of the Early Pioneers of Pendleton Co"
CLIFTON William (Barbara ---------Wanstaff) exempted, 1790. Children: Edith
--------) bequeathed land by Jacob Conrad. Clifton came from England
My Note: Jacob is son of Ulrich & brother to my direct Conrad line.
WAINSTAFF ------------ ------------- (Barbara -----------) d. bef 1792 ch.
1. Barbara (John Conrad, m 1792) 2. Henry, 3. Lewis reared by Lewis Wagoner)
Note from this I would gather that widow Barbara Wanstaff married William
Clifton (?) and her daughter Barbara married John Conrad.
CONRAD Ulrich (Sarah-----) exempted, 1789 d 1801 (note I will not include all
the family information but from what I can tell John above is the brother to
Jacob, see above)
Surveys and Patents Prior to 1788
1767 William Clifton west of S-B n. Jacob Conrad
1770 William Clifton east S-B (patented by) Jno. Skidmore, 1792
Note: according to information I found on Jacob his property was located
below the Fuddle Postoffice near Evick Gap. Jacob's father ran local mill at
the mouth of Thorn River)
Deed Book: 6/1789 William CLIFTON witness for Jacob Conrod (land sale)
Deed Book: 1/14/1790 William & Barbara CLIFTON to John CLIFTON 42 acres
Thorn Meadow Branch
Deed Book: 10/1792 William & Barbara CLIFTON to John Skidmore 70 acres
headwaters "East Branch of Potomack" patented to CLIFTON 5/1/1784
Note could be more land records the above were located on same page as my
Conrad land records "Pendleton Co, WVA deed book 1788-1818" by Rick Toothman
List of Tithables for 1790 (Dyer's district South Fork and the lower half of
the Souther Branch.) John Clifton, William Clifton also on the list were my
Conrads Jacob, Ulrich Sr/Jr, Adam & George)
Found no records for military service for any CLIFTON surname
FYI My Conrods moved to Ohio then to IL this is my mother's line. My dad is
the Clifton and his line is IL/KY/DE and they arrived in DE 1650's Hope this
helps someone and if you have information on the above William please let me
know. Thanks Barbara "Clifton" Guinn

I know I keep submitting this name but thought I'd try once more in case
someone new has joined our list:
Jonathan Clifton, born abt 1767(not sure where), married 6/16/1795 in
Campbell Co, VA. He married Ursley Wood and died after 1850 in Franklin
Co, VA.
Thanks, John(Napa, CA)
This is also a repeat, but thought it time to post again.
I have a William Clifton married to a Polly or Mary Sproles in Belmont
County, OH in 1805. One of their children was Levina Clifton (b. 1808) who
married a David P. Davis in Belmont County, OH in 1824. The Davis family
moved west to Vermilion County, IL by 1840s and Black Hawk and Benton
Counties by 1850. There are some Clifton's living in Iowa at the same time
but don't know if there is a relationship to Levina. Please contact if
anything is even remotely familiar.
Other related families: Hite/Sanders/Reed/Davis
Thanks,

Looking for information on Thomas Clementh (Clem) Clifton born about 1861
probably in Randolph County, AL died unknown. He is the son of John T and
Mary Ann Strickland Clifton.
Thomas Clementh is listed on the 1880 Randolph county census with wife
Priscilla (maiden name unknown). He is 19 she is 17. They had at least two
sons before her death about 1887. John Ervin b July 3, 1880 and Thomas b
July 17, 1884.
I was told that sometime between 1885-1890 Thomas Clementh and family left
Randolph County, with a wagon train, for either TX or LA along with about
100 other families from that area. All these families were related to each
other somehow. He lived in or around Lincoln and Jackson Parish, LA from at
least June 11, 1891 when he married Augusta Cooper, in Lincoln Parish, to
about 1900 when they returned to Randolph County. I don't know where he
lived in TX but I think he may have lived there briefly before moving to
Lincoln Parish.
Thomas Clementh and Augusta had two sons Wiley Eugene b Oct 30, 1892 and
Jody Jefferson b March 16, 1894 (born in Jackson Parish, LA).
Augusta had two daughters from a previous relationship: Mertice b Jan 19,
1885 and Bessie b Feb 27, 1889 (born Hico, Lincoln Parish, LA). The name of
their father is unknown.
Any help would be appreciated.

County, AL.They are listed on the 1850 census with 8 of thier 9 children.
