Sorry about that Gary and thanks for responding. Thought after I had
sent message to list that I could have at least added that my father
Henry Allen CLIFTON was born in LONDON in 1912 and guessing from there
his father John Christopher CLIFTON and his brother Fred were probably
born around London also and about 1887 give or take a year or so. My
grandfather worked for Vickers Armstrong in London and married Beatrice
Alice CLARK and the Clarks lived between Woollich and Charleton where
they apparently had a shop.
Other children born from John and Beatrice were Jack CLIFTON, Eileen
CLIFTON and Doris CLIFTON. Jack married Ciscelia BUNN. Doris married
George DAVIS and Eileen Joan married Jack HUMPHREY.
This is all I have on the family to date.

Dear Clifton Cuzzies
My elderly father has just remembered at 87 years old he had an "Uncle
Fred" a brother to my grandfather John Christopher CLIFTON. Is there
anyone out there who can throw any light on this little piece of
information! Not much to go on is it?
Happy Xmas to everyone on the list from New Zealand

>From an Article sent to me by Clay Clifton of Dallas, TX
written by Billie Mills of the Perry County Historical Society
"More About The Civil War Around Brazeau, Perry County Divided"
Mr. Zeno Barber, deceased, found a list in the Perry County Courthouse,
written in the year 1864, and wrote the following: 'This is a list of citizens
of Perry County found about the Courthouse and is supposed to have been amde
for the purpose of Election in 1864, as well as render the persons named in
the list infamous. It is believed a large portion of the persons named were
marked for destruction, this is, were to have been killed by the makers of the
list. It is further supposed on the kiling of these persons, their property
and effects were to be divided among the makers of the list and their
particular friends....'"
The article note the "list consistes of 194 names...." Among those listed
are:
Clifton, Robert Jr - Kill: hides in the woods - value $200
Clifton, Sam Jr - Rebel - $500
Clifton, Robert and family - hiding - $1,500

1850 Census Perry Co, MO
CLIFTON, Robert age 48 M Farmer b: NC
CLIFTON, Martha age 46 F --- b: NC
CLIFTON, Ann age 23 F --- b: NC

Still trying to find information on John who was my grandfather and
married Beatrice Alice CLARK. My father Henry Allen CLIFTON was born
1912 in London. On my Father's birth certificate the Where Born is
"29 Lyveden Road" would this be their address at the time of birth?
Does anyone know which suburb in London this address was? Did women give
birth at home back in 1912?
Cheers from New Zealand

Dear Barbara,
I posted this line to the CLIFTON Home Page several years ago. It
begins with Osbert (I think) back in the 1000's. James is definitely there.

John

Suggest you get access to "The 1787 Census of Virginia, Vols 1-3, compiled
by Netti Schreiner Yantis & Florence Speakman Love, Genealogical Books,
1987. Vol 3 is an index and you can look up the tax records of all the
adult male Clifton's and maybe get a handle on what county to look in-they
often start out in one and end up in another, and then move on again!

Have a question for all of you, does anyone have any information on the
Clifton's of Clifton and Lytham I am looking for information on
James Clifton that came from England and settled in Maryland 1660-1663 he was
the son of
Thomas Clifton Esq. (1657 England) and Ann Halsall
and Thomas was the son of Sir Cuthberth Clifton of Kent and Ann Tildesley of
Latham.
James was married to Ann Bent (Brent) and had sons, Thomas, William and James
and daughters Bridget and Catherine.
I am trying to prove or disprove that this son Thomas may be my direct line
Thomas that lived in Sussex Co., DE in the mid to late 1600's
Would appreciate any help. By the way happy holidays to everyone and stop by
Grandma's for a visit have changed the page some and added a lot of Clifton
information on our Owen Co., KY branch.
