This family is on 1870 Scott Co., AR (Waldron) census, but I can't find them on any other census. Does anyone know what happened to them? Here's what I found on the 1870:
CLIFF, James 42 AL
Thursa B. 30 TN
Howard 12 TX (Howell C.)
Fanny 10 AR
Jefferson T. 8 AR
Adolphus K. 6 AR
Loretta J. 3 AR
Lewis N. 9/12 AR
Another contributor says this is the J.T. Clift who enlisted 18 Jul 1861 at Benton, AR in the 11th Ark Inf, Co D. He was captured 8 Apr 1862 at Island 10, MO & sent to military prison at Camp Chase, OH then transferred to Johnson's Island 24 Apr 1862 then to Vicksburg for exchange 1 Sep 1862. He is said to have died soon after the war as a result of his imprisonment. What happened to his wife and children???

My great grandfather was Lewis Clift, born in 1867 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
I think I have traced his ancestry back to William Clift, bapt. 4 June 1707 in Westbury, Wilts (son of William and Katherine) and his wife Mary.
If anyone has descendants of William and Mary I would greatly appreciate more information.
I can provide some more details of the intervening generations if useful.
Andrew

I also have an "Alfred and Mary Clift" in my mother's line, but not the same. Mine are Alfred b. 1822, Mary b. 1832. Their son, Lewis Clift, was my great grandfather. He was born in 1867, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
I'll post a new thread about their ancestry.
Any links to these Clifts would be greatly appreciated.
Andrew
