Deed of Emancipation from JOANNA BERRY to SEYMOUR PRYOR
MASON COUNTY, KY ORDER BOOKS, FEB COURT 1838
Deed of Emancipation from JOANNA BERRY to SEYMOUR PRYOR was acknowledged in
open court and oredered to be recorded. The said Seymour Pryor was in open
court. He is of a black complexion, about forty one years old and five feet and
nine inches high.
And the said Joanna Berry executed and acknowledged bond with Willis??? Berry
as her security in the penalty of five hundred dollars, conditioned that the
said negro shall not become chargeable to any county in the state.
Seymour is my great-greatgrandmother's (MARIAH) father. I want to find out
where he went after he was emancipated; I haven't found him in the 1840 Mason
Co. Census. Joanah/Joanna Berry was the widow of Thomas Berry. Her father was Benjamin Clift, who moved from VA to KY. He may have bequeathed Seymour to his daughter but that doesn't explain the surname Pryor.
Any suggestions as to how to research Seymour Pryor appreciated. I have some info on Joanna and Benjamin. I found one John Prior, a large landowner, in KY.
Kberry
