HI:
I'm researching JOANNA(H) CLIFT BERRY of Mason County, KY. Specifically, I want to find out what slaves she may have brought to her marriage to THOMAS BERRY, also of Mason Co., and the names of the slaves she owned after he died.
Joanna freed my great-great-great grandfather, SEYMOUR PRYOR, in 1838. Thomas had died already. Seymour was 41.
I'm looking for these slaves: Seymour's daughter MARIAH, who would've been about 2 years old in 1838; MOSES BERRY, who was 15 years older than Mariah, and married her in 1854; and Parmitia, Mariah's mother.
Other possible slave owners, in either FAYETTE COUNTY, KY, or Mason Co., were surnamed Chamberlain and Baldwin. Please check your wills and other documents for these names.
Thanks,
Kberry

I'm researching my Davis line and have lost Missouri (not the state, I
know where that is). Missouri Ann was the dau. of Robert Newton Davis
and Ann(a) Eliza Lea. She was b. ca 1859 in Hamilton Co., Tn. She m.
James Clift in 1881 in Hamilton Co., but after that I find no trace of
either one. I'm also having trouble connecting James to a Clift
family. He doesn't appear to connect to the Col. Wm. Clift in Hamilton
Co. Does anyone have a clue where he belongs? Does anyone have any
idea where James and Missouri went?
One of my sources has a Nannie b. 1884 as their daughter, but I can't
find anything to substantiate that.
As an interesting aside:
My Davis line came from the Morgan Co., Tn. area. And there was a Clift
family there also that seems to have come from Maryland. If I remember
correctly, they also had a Newton or Robert Newton Clift in the family.
Anyone have any idea if there is a connection (see above - Missouri's
father was Robert Newton)? Anyone have any idea where the name Newton
comes in?
Thanks much.
Donna
