HI:
I'm researching my slave ancestors MOSES BERRY, his parent JUDAH, Moses' wife
MARIAH PRYOR, and her parents, SEYMOUR and PARMITIA PRYOR.
I want to trace the following slaves and slave owners:
I have found a deed of emancipation filed in Mason County, KY, Order Book,
February Court 1838 by JOANNA BERRY freeing Seymour.
Joanna was married to THOMAS BERRY. Her father was BENJAMIN CLIFT (according
to "The Clift Family, 1666-1950," by G. Glenn Clift, Frankfort, KY, 1950),
born in Guilford Co., NC in 1744. Clift lived in Culpepper and King counties,
VA., also.
Clift moved to Mason County, KY, supposedly after his son NELSON went ahead
of him and bought land there. Benjamin lived in Mason Co. after 1803, when he
owned 6 slaves. In the 1810 Census he owned 8 slaves.
His daughter Joanna/Johannah married THOMAS BERRY; among the slaves listed in
his will dated 1806 was JUBOY (perhaps JUDAH?).
Please check out my genealogy Web site, which has more details about the
Berrys.
