Read with interest your message connecting Joseph and Mary "Noble" Clift of Maryland to the Clifts in Pennsylvania. I have researched Clifts for a long time and have been unable to make that connection. My research indicates that Mary Noble's (b. 21 Aug 1711) parents were Mark (b. 21 Nov 1735) and Elizabeth "Cooper" Noble. Mark and Elizabeth Clift were married 16 Oct 1708 in Talbot Co. MD. Mark and Elizabeth had two children - Mary and Benjamin Noble. Benjamin Noble married Susannah Silver. Mary Noble married Joseph Clift (b. abt 1715) in Talbot Co. MD on 12 Jan 1739/40. Joseph and Mary "Noble" Clift had two children - Joseph (b. 1740) and Mark (b. 6 July 1741).

I have also noted below the actual language that discusses Nobles and Clifts in Pennsylvania. Hope it is helpful.

Hi Sheri,
Everything I "got" on the Clifts of MA was from WorldConnect -- and I didn't even print any of it out because nothing seemed to connect to Hannah m. Daniel Pegg. At this point, the Clift connection is only a (fairly tenuous) theory that has no support whatsoever. The only reason that Clift seems to me more likely than Cliff is that there are more Clifts around (or seem to be).
I would love to see the primary documentation which led the researcher to decide that Hannah was a Cliff. I added her name as "Cliff" to my database totally on secondary sources -- which is exactly how mistakes get perpetuated. I wonder what evidence there really is that she was a Cliff and that her father was named Joseph (or Jacob).
I'm not going to change her name to "unknown" yet -- Cliff is the best guess we have, even if it _is_ just a guess.
Let me know if you ever do find proof.... I'll reciprocate....
cheers,
Gordon
