Looking for Clifford/Scribner connections. I have searched for my
English Clifford/Scribner connection to America for many years and have just found
THE book which has put all the family pieces together. I highly recommend
this detailed and thoroughly researched book written by Leroy O Baker, although
I do understand there are just a few copies left. You may contact him at

I am hoping to be able to locate fellow members of my Clifford family, and in particular, to locate a painting that was made of my Great-Great Grandfather, William Clifford. The painting in question is said to have gone to his youngest son, Alfred. I am certain of the paintings existence as recently as the 1950s or 1960s, as a cousin of my Mothers saw the painting on a visit to London. However, there has been no contact between our family in Canada and the family in England for some time.
William was born 1 September 1851, at 2 Sussex Place, Camberwell, Surrey. He is believed to have married twice, once to Jane Elizabeth Bond 28 May 1871 at St. Peters Church, Walworth, Surrey. I have little information about the other bride, although its believed she was a second wife by the name of Harriet.
William was a bootmaker, and owned shoe or boot shop in London.
Among Williams children are: William, believed born about 1873 in London; Arthur, believed born about 1875 in London; Florence Annie, born 6 November 1877 at 44 New Church Road, Camberwell, Surrey (my Great Grandmother); George, believed born about 1877 in London; and Alfred, believed to have been born in London, date unknown. Florence and her brothers George and Arthur came to Canada circa 1904. I am hoping that one of the descendants of William Clifford might be able to make contact, and with all luck, know the whereabouts of William Cliffords portrait lets hope it still exists!
Please note the spelling in my email address, where I spell Jaimie with two of the letter i we genealogists all know the importance of correct spelling, in this case so your email does not bounce back! Jaimie McEvoy, jaimiemcevoy(a)yahoo.ca.
