Hallo Rose - a Very Happy New Year ! Although i have quite a lot regarding
early New England settlers - Hunterton, Hampton NH e.g. I have no specific
info. on a connection with the Native Americans. However, my good friend and US
correspondent Bill Marquis of Plattsville NY I know has done some rearch in
this, and in fact a year or two ago planned to go to an Indian Gathering out
in the SW, but bad health forced hime to cancel it. Try him.
Both the Hunterton Clifford of NJ asnd the Hampton Cliffords of NH have been
traced back to English Roots. I shall be very pleased to know what you can
find out. Best Wishes, David Clifford.clyfford(a)aol.com
Greetings,
Have been trying to determine how "Free Persons of Color" acquired the Clifford surname. The family lore is that this family was never enslaved. There appears to be some connection to the Clifford lines of Hunterdon, NJ and Westmoreland, PA that descend from George Clifford (d. 1757 in NJ) through James Clifford of Hardy County, VA (now WV) who was married to Prudence White.
Isaac Clifford (c. 1776 - 1831) also of Hardy County, VA appears to the patriarch of the Cliffords that were mixed race.
Have any Clifford researchers found ancestors that were slaveowners? Has anyone found evidence of an enslaved person named "Isaac"?
Another possibility is that these mixed race Clifford lines had Native American ancestry. Have any Clifford researchers encountered Native American admixture in your lines?
Thanks.
Rose

Hi Jim,
I check all my records and only find
William Clifford & Lydia L. Crowell married: 24 Nov 1825 Hopkintown, NH
Hopkintown, NH is very close top Nashua, NY
I have no parents for either one and no children listed. If they were
Catholic than they
are probably an Irish Clifford Family.
My Mother was from an English Clifford Family and non-catholic

The action that this album has created might give me help with a brick wall. My Ggrandmother was Mary E. Clifford She was born
April 3rd 1840 at Nashua N. H. youngest of three children of William A. and Mary Crowell Clifford. she married Samuel Allen and in 1861 they were in Ripon, Fondulac county Wisc.
I hope someone has a connection.

Hi Leroy. So nice to hear from you again. Yes, I already have the Gasch
story and have put them right. Do you have a copy of my booklet, 'In search of
Pons '? If not I'll send you a copy.
I brought it out in 2000 and nobody, repeat nobody, including academics have
find fault in my findings.
I am truly sorry to hear about your daughter's problem and do hope it will
be resolved.
Cheers, and a Happy Xmas and New Year to you all ! Cheers again,

Hi David,
I am not sure what this is all about, but interested in the part having to
do with Guillime (William) which sound interesting. I had a call a couple
days ago from a Martha Clifford in Vermont wishing to purchase a CLIFFORD book
of mine, so I will get this out in the mail soon. At the DALTON Reunion (held
at Hampton, New Hampshire), I was able to sell 2 books plus I gave one to
Millicent. Hope all has been going well with you and the family. Bernice is
having a medical problem so they have been drawning blood to see if they can find
the problem. Take Care. ENJOY!
Cheers,
Leroy
Very Cold here and we have snow on the ground and every where.
Nr mine, Bil. But I'll keep tem on file.
I maild the piece of Bigland pedigree to you on Saturay. I have altered one
or two errors, but the line bck to Guilaume Pons, Count of Arques is clear
enough. Cheers, David.clyfford(a)aol.com
