I am researching my 2nd great grandfather Thomas Clifford born 1799 in
Yorkshire, England. He married Elizabeth (Middleton) Thorpe after 1825.
Elizabeth Middleton married Thomas Thorpe in 1824 in Ebberston, Yorkshire,
England and they had one son David.
Thomas and Elizabeth Clifford along with David Thorpe came to the Toronto,
Ontario Canada between 1825 and 1830.
I am looking for more information on these famlies in England and I am
willing to share what I have found in Canada.
Dave Cooper.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away...
I would like to express my most sincere thanks to everyone who has assisted me with this long-standing request. I FINALLY found the breakthrough baptism yesterday:
William Clifford, son of John & Elizabeth was born at GAWCOTT, BUCKS on 10 Jan 1799 and was baptised at Buckingham 13 Jan 1799.
This fits perfectly with John & Eliz. being married 9 Sept. 1798 at Buckingham. So I'm now fairly certain that this John CLIFFORD and Elizabeth HOLLAND were my 5g-grandparents.
And as a bonus, I've also found that John was the brother of George CLIFTON aka CLIFFORD, who was born abt. 1754 in Tingewick, and who also had a son William baptised in Finmere 1801. Next step is to figure out who their father was, and whether the Thomas CLIFTON who also baptised a William 1801 in Finmere was a sibling.
Thank you again, everyone, for your help. Now I can continue to move forward (or backward, as the case may be) !!
Best Wishes,

I have checked with David CLIFFORD as to any information regarding the DNA
project. David indicates that they have 25 "CLIFFORDS" including Lord Thomas
CLIFFORD from some of the main CLIFFORD lines. Those that I have sent names
from the US and abroad, should either have their swab kits or will receive
them shortly. The ones that were received and are in the lab for testing,
indicate all is going smoothly. It appears that the testing and putting the
results into the various categories will probably need about a year...so
please have patience. Once again we would like to Thank all those that agreed
to be a part of the project and those that would have liked to have been a
part of it. Take Care. HAVE A GREAT DAY. Thanks "Cousins All"
Cheers,

Hi. It's Dev Clifford, listowner of the Clifford-L and -D mailing lists
at Rootsweb.com. I have gotten a lot of bounced messages lately, so I'm
sending this test to see which of your addresses are currently valid.
Just delete this if you receive it, I'll automatically get a message
back on the ones that can't be delivered. Sorry if this causes anyone
any inconvenience. Let's all post our Clifford research problems so we
see where we are. Mine will come later today.

Hi Listers,
I am stuck on the following individuals and I wonder if anyone else might have Cliffords or Parish Registers in this area who might be able to help me.
I can't find a baptism or a marriage for either of these men (not in the Finmere PRs):
William Clifton aka Clifford born ca. 1798-99 Gawcott, Buckinghamshire per 1881 census (but lived most of his life in Finmere, Oxfordshire and claimed to have been born there in 1851 and 1871). Married Ann ? of Farthinghoe, Northants around 1821-22.
John Clifton aka Clifford born ca. 1778-79 Finmere, Oxon per 1851 and 1871 census. Married Elizabeth ? of Murcott, Oxon ca. 1798-1800 - location unknown.
I believe John was William's father but I have no proof as yet.
The family went mostly by CLIFFORD in the 1800s but it seems they may have been known as CLIFTON in the 1700s and prior.
I have much more information on this family. Hope someone can help.
