Unfortunately, I don't know anything about siblings for our Horatio. But it is possible. Lots of friends and families immigrated together. Did Allen go to Canada first and later to Ohio? Horatio married Mary (surname unknown) in Montreal in 1837 and their first 8 children were born in Canada. Only the youngest son, Horatio, Jr. was born in Ohio. They were in the 1860 Census in Painesville, Lake Co., Ohio. Before 1870, they had moved to Michigan. Horatio W. died in Pinconning township, Bay Co., Michigan in 1888. All of his sons were given Bible names, except Horatio, Jr., so he didn't name one for Allen...no help there.
I got most of my information from the Mormon site, Family Search. Try searching on Allen Cliff, Birth/Christening: 1819, Place: England and see if you get lucky too. Most of that information was extracted from Parish Registers of Christenings, Marriages and Burials. Look for "Sources" below the Family Sheet and see if you can rent a film of photographed pages of the actual originals. The one I ordered started in the 1600s and ran through the 1800s. Sorry I don't have much help for you, but if you do find a connection I would like to hear about it. Good Luck!

THE FREEPORT PRESS
Pub. Aug. 2, 1923
Harrison Co., OH
THOMAS C. CLIFF, age 23, a B&O yard switchman, was seriously injured Friday morning when he boarded a loaded coal car preparing to ride it across the scales and into its proper track in the yards below.
It is reported that the train made an advance in speed thus jerking the car, as he was climbng the ladder on the side, causing him to lose his hold, throwing him to the ground.
His fall was broken by colliding with his conductor, C. B. Louk, who was engaged in cutting cars over the hump.
Medical attention was summoned, revealing injury to the head, back and wrist.
He was taken on No. 69 to Bridgeport then to Martins Ferry Hospital by ambulance.
Mr. Cliff's home is in Monterey, Tennessee, where he will probably return after leaving the hospital.

My husband is related to Allen Cliff, who was born in England about 1819. I wonder if Allen and Horatio may be brothers. Allen lived in Columbia, Lorain, Ohio in 1880. Any information you may have would be appreciated.
Dear List,
I have been searching in vain for some tim eregarding my wife's CLIFF ancestors. Having tried several 'county' lists I came across this surname list and was very keen to see if anyone here could help.
From tentative family memories we though that our CLIFFs may have originated in Yorkshire... but postings on several Yorkshire sites has yet to yield and significant breakthroughs and we remain unconvinced that there is a Yorkshire link.
I have since received a couple of relevant birth and marriage certificates which do not yet pinpoint anything definite but I thought in light of this I'd post again to ask for further help.
I have firstly received the birth certificate of Simeon Walter CLIFFE. He was born on 26 Sept 1894 in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK the son of Walter CLIFFE and Mary CLIFFE (nee HUTCHINGS). This confirmed information I already had. Although I did know that Walter was an able seaman in the Royal Navy the certificate confirmed that at the time of Simeon's birth Walter was serving on the HMS Fearless. (are there any sort of online Navy records to search?)
I have been unable to trace the birth certificate for Walter CLIFFE but do have his marriage certificate to Mary Hutchings. Walter and Mary married on 23rd June1891 in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK. He is now listed as Walter CLIFF (apparently the 'E' was added later!) aged 20 which puts his birth around 1870-71.
On the marriage certificate Walter's father is listed also as a Walter CLIFF. Walter senior was deceased at the time of the marriage and has his occupation listed as 'Glass blower'.
So far that is all I have and I still have little clue as to where my CLIFF(E)s came from. Were they from Dorset or did they move in from Yorkshire or elsewhere??
If anyone can throw light on my Walter CLIFF(E) b. c.1870 or, indeed, his Glassblower father, Walter CLIFF I would.be much obliged.....
If anyone has any information on CLIFF(E)'s in general it might help me make a connection......
Many Thanks
Mark Kirby
