Very interesting -- yours is the first substantive lead I've ever seen on the Cliff family. You might try doing a WorldConnect search using the spelling "Clift" -- looks like the folks you're after went by that spelling at least as often.
I don't seem to be able to connect my Hannah Cliff to the Cliff/Clift family you mention, but it's entirely possible that they _do_ connect -- there certainly seem to be few enough Cliffs around. All I know (through secondary sources, not sure how reliable) is that Hannah's father was Joseph or Jacob Cliff, and her mother's name was Hannah. Not much to go on. I suspect that she wasn't from Philadelphia -- all of her husband's family (the Peggs) were old Philly folks -- but there just don't seem to be any other Cliffs in SE PA. It wouldn't surprise me if she was from MA.
Do let me know if you find Hannah anywhere; and also check out WorldConnect for the Clifts. There was a ton of material there.
Cheers,
Gordon

HI: we might be seaching for the same family line. You might want to have a look at my family tree (Cliff) use me as the search term to link to my family tree. There is record of a Joseph and Lemuel as brothers of abt. 1722 born to Samuel who was born to William of marshfield, Massechusettes abt 1660. The references come from the book "The Descendants of Edmund and Jane Webb Price". I am currently looking for a copy of this book. I am trying to link Joseph or Lemuel to John Cliff of abt. 1760 with no real proof yet. I do know that when John Cliff was munster to the Kings American Dragoons he was signed on in N.Y.Hope this helps,
Mark Cliff.

I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on the history of the Cliff's, prior to John Cliff of the Kings American Dragoons of the late 1700's. John could also have used the name William or William could have been a brother or father, I'm still not sure. There are listingings in the munster rolls of both a John and a William along with both in land grants dated 1785.
