This is from an old genealogy column that appeared in the "Oak Ridger" in
1983 or '84. The writer was discussing a book, "The Descendents of John W.
Walker," by Frankie Ann Walker, which also included some info on related
Click and Middleton families. These aren't my Middletons, but may be of
interest to someone else. This is what it said: "James G. Click mar.
Elizabeth Middleton, whose parents were John and Jenette Dowdle Middleton of
Anderson, S.C. They left S.C. and moved to Lincoln Co., TN, then on to
Madison Co., ALA. John bought 428 acres on the Flint River in 1812. He died
in 1819 near present-day Huntsville. John's father was John Sr., b. abt.
1745 in Craven Co., S.C. He mar. Elizabeth [last name unknown]. His death
date is unknown, but his will was dated July 25, 1795, in Pendleton Co.,
S.C. John Sr.was the son of Richard Middleton III, b. 1710 in Barbados. He
married Susannah Canty. Records of this family are found in Craven Co., S.C.
Richard died 1750. Richard II, the next ancestor, was born abt. 1677 in
Barbados. He mar. Elizabeth Spittlehouse Nov. 7, 1703, in Barbados. After
Richard's death in 1712, Elizabeth mar. Jonathan Ward and moved to S.C. with
her young son. Very little is known about Richard, the earliest proven
ancestor. He was b. abt. 1641 in England. He left there for Barbados, where
he lived until 1692.
