Recently I took a post of Rootswebb by Joan Vitale and when I tried to reply
to it she is no longer on AOL so I'm going to try to send this reply through
rootswebb hoping she will get it.
Dear Joan,
Don't reckon we've met, but that's not all that important so long as we can
correspond about the Cleeks and Clicks.
While going through some papers I have had laid up for some time I came
accross one of your posts I had taken off the e-mail and laid up and had for
gotten about it until yesterday when I came upon it.
On it you list a John click as a descendant of Mathis Click, wife Margaret.
I'm afraid that your source of information has given you this as an
assumption rather than fact. The only son of Mathias whose name was John was
one of his oldest sons and his full name was "John Peter." This we have
documented proof on and can confirm.
I reckon that I, as much as anyone else am more than interested in the
Cleek/Clicks and for this reason I would like to share some information with
you. Through the process of illimination by using the Cleek/Clicks we are
sure of, The John Click who ended up in Alabama (the one you mention), is no
doubt the son of old Michael Click, wife Margaret Barbara Lutz of Hawkins
County Tennessee. Seems this John obtained a portion of his inferitance from
Michael before Michael died, then went for a while to Lee County Virginia
before migrateing to Alabama. I say this because of the time frame of the
two Johns that can be found in the early records of upper east Tennessee and
south west Virginia. At that time, there were only two who would fit the
mold and one being the son of Michael and the other the son of Mathias. We
know and can prove that Mathias's John was John Peter and can document him
from upper east Tennessee to Pecan Point, present day north Tesas on the
Oklahoma line.
I hope I have not written in an offensive manner and my only intention was to
try and keep the record straight.
By the way, At present Bob Click and I have started a book on the upper east
Tennessee, south west Virginia descendants of Mathias Cleek. (Click). We
hope to have it finished in about a year. Maybe our book will be of some
assistance to those who are interested in the Click/Cleeks that come through
our gateway area in the early 1800"s
Enough for now. By and may God bless..........jd Cleek (Pronounced Click)
