After entering the website, go to the Click Family Section. The new pages are
listed under the photographs section, Treasure Chest Four and Five.
Elbridge S. Click is listed in the Parole records at Vicksburg. He was the
son of George Click and Tempy Hawkins. "Bridge" was born in 1832 in
Tennessee. He moved to Texas with his family in 1835 and settle in Houston
County. His brother, James Lawson died during the Civil War. James Lawson
was born in Alabama in 1834.
The following is an excerpt of a letter from Elbridge to his brother in law,
James F. Reneau, telling of his brother's death:
December 25, 1862
Winona Horsepittle
Dear brother,
Once again I seat myself to drop you a few lines to let you know how I am
at this time. I have been here five weeks, but I don't think I shall stay
here many more days if my health keeps improving as it has done, for I am
tired of this place as evera dog was of hot mush and I think I shall soon go
yo my Company. Me and brother Lawson come here together and Lawson died on
the sixth of this month with the pneumonia, which he caught in camps from
exposure and hard marches and Edward Birmingham and Martin Landrum had been
in the horsepittle, but they have gotten well and have gone back to the
Company. We have a good deal of sickness in our Company and several deaths.
Some fourteen of fifteen have died out of the Company since we came out and
a good many were in the horsepittle, not able for duty. Our Legion got in
General Prices Army at Holly Springs in north Mississippi, but our Army has
fallen back about 75 miles and given the Yankees our retreating ground. I
think the Yankees are aiming for Vicksburg on the Mississippi River. I am
on the Central R.R. about 100 miles above Vicksburg, and the Army is about
25 miles about here at Grenada and says they are marching to make a stand,
but I guess that if the enemy were to come upon them that they would
skeedaddle as usual.
E.S. Click
In a letter dated June 17, 1863 George Click fears that his son Elbridge has
died at Vicksburg. "....worldly news reached us that Isaac Ward and
Elbridge were dead and the Company was all killed to 4 men."
In a letter dated August 26, 1863 George Click writes "I must state to you
with a glad heart that I had the pleasure a littlr better than two weeks ago
to see Elbridge in good health at my house again."
Another E.S. Click, Elbert S. Click, was Elbridge's brother. Elbert also
served with the Confederate Army but he was not at Vicksburg.
In a message dated 7/18/99 6:05:36 PM Pacific Daylight Time,

What a remarkable letter. It is little things like that which makes
genealogy so interesting. I forwarded it to my step-daughter and printed it
for the grand kids. Thanks for sharing it.
Grant, Chico, CA
I am searching for my grandmother Lula Viola Click, date of birth December 10, 1880. She married
George Edmond Isbell around 1915 around Nacogdoches, Texas. She lived in and around East
Texas until the mid 1940's and moved to Colleyville, Tarrant Co., TX. She had a brother named
Cad Click whose wife was Ethel. He went on to California in the 1950's.
Does anyone know anything about her where she was born, who her parents were?
She is buried in Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville, Tarrant County, Texas
Thanks

While there are some POWELL family members listed in "Kansas Saplings" they
do not go back to the mid 1800's. The only mention of a MATHIAS--MATTHIAS is
Dr. John P. MATHIS and does not fit that time frame either.
I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful
Good luck in your research

Good Morning:
I have a copy of a published family history titled "Kansas Saplings" and I would be happy to do some look-ups for anyone who needs a jump start or has (temporarily) hit a brick wall.
The title page reads, "Genealogies for Bigelow, Cleek, Messer and Rankin Families. All of the branches of the families included have roots in Johnson or Douglas county in Kansas clost to the Civil War period." Kansas Saplings was authored by BEatrice McCann Messer, Gardner, Kansas 1991. There are a number of other names from Abbott, Aboy to Zimmerman, Zink and Zook.
There is no listing of documentation and while I am always hesitant to accept this type of information (names and dates) without listing of documentation it could be a great place to start research. There is no "historical" information as such, just listings of names, dates and places.
The CLEEK information begins with Jacob CLEEK (I have capitalized surnames, they are not all in caps in the manuscript) and reads:
"There is no accurate information about Jacob CLEEK. The CLEEK family was in PA and later in Scott Co., VA. There were several Jacob CLEEKs, but from whom this one was descended has not been proven. This Jacob CLEEK was married twice and had children by both wives. They moved to Kentucky where some of his children stayed. In same cases the name was changed to CLICK. Tax lists 1834-1838 lists George G. CLICK, Rachel CLICK, Robert CLICK, Matthias CLICK, John CLICK and Jacob CLICK. He died ca 1832 as his son, Andrew J. CLICK told his children that his father died when he was 2 years old. This was written in a letter now in the hands of a descendant. It also told in the same letter that they had lived in Poor Valley. The History of Scott Co., VA, by Robert M. Addington tells that Big Poor Valley, was a valley skirting the base of Clinch Mountain on the south side throughtout the entire length of the county and was named on account of the sterility of the soil. He m #2 to Rachel GI!
BSON b ca 1784 and d after 1860, probably in Buchanan, Co., MO (See GIBSON family)"
You may email me privately with any look-up requests - I do work part time in a small animal clinic so please be patient if I don't answer you immediately but will get back to you as soon as possible.
And while I have your attention <g> I would like to remind my fellow Click family researchers that I am looking for any information with CLICK family connections in Pennsylvania. Thanks!
