Dear Click Cousins and Cousin Grant,
You are one of the most active participants and I am always glad to read your
stuff. I will be joining in after the first of the year with all the verified
facts of my husband's line hopefully to help others. The family genealogist in
Berea, KY just informed she talked to a German interpreteur informing us
Americans that Baltas or Baldas(our #1 name) is really Baltasar or Baltheus.
Berea source also finds a Matthais and Michael in each family of each following
gen so get ready for that. A lot of the work is already finished and recorded so
do not give up.
Happy Holidays, Click Cousins,

Hi Arlon,
I don't know where Henry T. CLICK is buried but I forwarded your letter to
some CLICK cousins. Some of them might know. After Christmas some of us will
be trying to untangle the maze of similar names.
Have you seen the CLICK genealogy below? Although this version does not offer
any documentation it seems to be exact as to names, dates, spouse, etc. It
shows Henry T. CLICK as a brother to Matthias B. CLICK I just realized that
Matthias on the BLM web site has two T's in it. I don't recall seeing that
spelling before.
But no matter how I spell it I think Matthias B. and Henry T. CLICK were in
Arkansas for over 20 years before moving to Texas.
According to BLM records there was a Henry CLICK in Izard Co., Ark. ca 1820.
By 1837 there was a Henry CLICK along with Matthias CLICK in Howard Co., Ark.
The Matthias CLICK in Howard Co., Ark is probably Matthias B. CLICK on the
genealogy below. I can justify that argument but not prove it.
1st Generation:
1.Baltas Click b.abt 1699 Alsace Germany d.1732 (enroute to America on the
Ship Mary)
2nd Generation:
1.Jacob Click m. Christina Croddy
2.Palser Boldas Click m. Sophia ?
3.Michael Cleek b.abt 1721 Alsace, Germany d.1814 Hawkins Co., TN.
+Margaret Barbara Lutz m.31Oct1758 York Co., PA
4.Mathias Click m. Margaret ?
3rd Generation:
Children of Michael Cleek and Margaret Barbara Lutz:
1. Jacob Cleek (never married)
2. Michael Cleek, Jr b.abt 1775 VA d.1832 Bedford Co., TN.
+Emily (Milly) Reynolds m.unknown
3. George Cleek
+ unknown (married twice no names on either wife)
4. Elizabeth Cleek
5. Katherine Cleek
6. John Cleek b.abt 1760 d.1857 Jefferson Co., AL
+ Jane ?
7. Margaret Cleek b.1782 d.1859
8. Mathias Cleek b.1790 Hawkins Co., TN.
+ Jane (Jennie) Haskins
4th Generation:
Children of John Cleek and Jane ? Cleek (6 above)
1. Isabella Cleek
+ John Middleton m. 1820
2. James G. Cleek
+ Elizabeth Middleton m. 1820
3. Henry Tallifero Cleek d. TX (Cherokee Co.?)
+ Elizabeth Burk m. 11Jun1818 Blount Co., AL
4. Sarah Cleek
+ John Hill m.11 Dec1821 Jefferson Co., AL
5. Mathias B. Cleek
+ Nancy Moss m. 6 May1817 Wilson Co., TN.
6. John Cleek, JR. d. TX
7. Elizabeth Cleek d. TX
+Jeremiah Hardin m.1821
5th Generation:
Children of Mathias B. Cleek and Nancy Moss Cleek:
1. William M. Click b.1820
+1. Elizabeth ? +2.Nannie ?
2. John M. Click b.1822
+Sarah E. ?
3. James Click b.1827
+Sophronia
4. Rufus Click b.1831
5. Marcellus Click b.1833
+Nancy Jane WEAVER
If the "4th generation" above is correct Henry T. and Matthias B. are
brothers. They are also listed as CLEEK but they and their children became
CLICK'S in Arkansas records.
It seems logical that if there is a Matthias B. with a brother named Henry T.
in the genealogy and a Matthias and a Henry are landowners in Howard Co. ca
1837 there is a good possibilty they are the same brothers from the genealogy.
I assume they are but I can't prove it. And Matthias and Henry are used by
the Click family more than once.
According to the genealogy they also have a sister Isabella and brother James
that married a MIDDLETON brother and sister. One of the reasons I think the
Howard Co., CLICKs are the same Matthias B. and Henry T. is because of
Marcellus C. CLICK, son of Matthias B. and Nancy MOSS.
Marcellus married Nancy Jane WEAVER, daughter of David Adam Weaver. The
WEAVER's were in Savier Co., Ark. about 1860, the time of the marriage. And
here is an interesting and VERY important fact.
Howard Co., where the Click's obtained land starting in 1827 and where
Matthias and Henry both owned land in 1837, was part of Savier Co. until 1873.
In 1873 parts of four counties were united into Howard Co. I think it is
likely that the part of Savier Co. that became Howard was where the CLICK's
and possibly the WEAVER's lived. Howard Co. is about 12 miles wide and 42
miles long. The WEAVER's and CLICK's left Savier Co., Ark. The area where
they lived became Howard Co. many years after their departure.
Starting about 1855 three CLICKs; Ruffus, Thomas B., and Marcellus moved down
to Lafayette Co. Ark. They obtained land in Moss township. One of our CLICK
cousins pointed out their mother was a Moss. And Jackson MOSS was in
Lafayette Co. when the CLICK'S were.
Here are the dates of some of the land patents from the BLM site.
MOSS, JACKSON C 03/01/1855 5942 AR1220__.442
MOSS, JACKSON C 03/01/1855 5943 AR1220__.443
MOSS, JACKSON C 03/01/1855 5944 AR1220__.444
CLICK, WILLIAM H 03/01/1855 7969 AR1260__.274
CLICK, MARCELLUS 03/01/1855 7176 AR1250__.010
CLICK, THOMAS B 03/01/1855 6950 AR1240__.313
Notice all the dates are the same. That indicates some bureaucrat signed all
the patents the same day. And this is Lafayette Co. south of where Matthias
and Henry settled in 1837.
But it appears they didn't break all ties with Savier/Howard Co., at least
Marcellus didn't. He married Nancy Jane there about 1860. He is also listed
in NOTES for a land purchase for her brother. The brother died in the Civil
War.
I think the trail is clear. They were a foot loose family. If the places of
marriages and births are correct they were not in any one place long. Also,
the males may have gone ahead and filed for land, then moved their families
later.
It will be interesting to see what we fnd once the new year starts.
Keep in touch,
Grant

Dear Grant,
I am scanning the letter I received from an old man explaining his line of
Clicks/Glicks/Glucks. It is choc full of information including the fact that his family line
now lives in Olympia, WA which is right next to Oregon. I will send these addition 3 pages if
you need of the VA people but you may not want it(he refers to them). This gentleman sounds
older so cannot now guarantee a contact, just the city. Good luck.

Grant,
Death certificate records are also usually kept on file at county health dept
offices. I'm not familiar in what county Klamath Falls is located or the
county seat, but it
might be worth at least giving the county health dept a phone call to see if
they
have death records ca. 1925. If you found his death record there, you could
likely
get an official copy of it right then and there.
Joan
Thanks Jean,
Another person -also named Jean --- has checked the Ore. Death Index for me..
Marsh CLICK not listed. I'm going to send for an Ore death Certificate. The
cost is minuscule and I'll never know unlesss I try. The older people in
Texas seem to think he died in Ore.
However, Marsh CLICK had a grandson in Ore. who would have been 25 years old
when Marsh died. In fact, the grandson, my father-in-law, got maried in 1925,
the year Marsh probably died. He never mentioned his grandfather dying that
same year. He never mentioned his grandfather at all, not to me anyway My
wife and her brother, the only children, did not know any of the CLICK's had
ever been in Ore.
Well, Bill never talked much about anything so that doesn't prove much. He
was a stoic old cowboy who pulled his own teeth and shot his own dogs when
they got old. If Marsh died in Ore.Bill never mentioned it.
But I think Texas might be where Marsh died. Don't you just love a mystery?
Thanks for the Nancy MOSS info. One of the good things about these small
family list is that incorrect information can be noticed and changed. It
gets people posting corrections and a lot of information gets recorded. On
big list like JONES-L we never know if there are two people with similar
names. We have at least 7 Mathias CLICK'S and maybe 2 Mathias B. CLICK's.
That is one way to explain the names of two wives for what we think is only
one person.
Grant
Grant
Dear Joan,
I rechecked my files and see I was in error and should have said Mathias B.
Click married Nancy Moss on May 6, 1817 which was also stated in Early Tennessee
Marriages. Libertyville is on a main river out of Hancock County(the mts.), TN.
Record has it that people would cut down a forest of trees, roll them down the
hill to the river, and float them to the city for cash and a start in life. My
line tried to fit this Mathias and Nancy but could not do it. Ours is Matthais
and "Jane" Jennie Haskins. Thanks for corrections, I will look in notes before
answering.

Hello,
I 'll have a few hours free time in Klamath Falls during Christmas. I would
really like to prove or disprove the idea that Marcellus C. "Marsh" CLICK
died in Klamath Co. ca 1925. What is the best use of my limited time? How
can I find death records for 1925?
Marsh CLICK is something of a mystery. We don't know for sure when or where
he was born (ca 1836), when or where he married Nancy Jane WEAVER (ca 1860),
or when or where he died.
Marsh CLICK and his father-in-law, David Adam WEAVER, were ranchers int
Bandera Co. TX and became widely known because of being mentioned in A. J.
Sowell's book TEXAS INDIAN FIGHTERS, published in 1883. By the early 1900s
Marsh CLICK had children and grandchildren in Klamath Co. His daughter Martha
Elizabeth married Erasmus Andrew BREWER and had 8 children. They were
residents of Fort Klamath starting in June 1910.
The marriage of William "Bill" BREWER and Gladys DARLING in 1925 lead to the
purchase of the family ranch 3 miles east of Fort Klamath. The property is
still owned by their descendants and is still a working cattle ranch. But
Marsh CLICK disappeared from the record about 1925.
Some have suggested he is buried in an unmarked grave on a ranch in Texas.
However, the Texas dscendants have an oral tradition that he went to live with
his daughter in Klamath Co., Oregon prior to his death. Was his body shipped
back to Texas?
I'll have one afternoon free to look for a record of his death. Any ideas of
where to start.
Grant Chico, CA
Greetings....
Oregon has their Death Index on film; Death Index 1921 - 1930. I
recently used it at the Seattle, WA Public Library. (The Death Index
for 1921-1930). You can actually read it (not blury, etc). It's in
alphabetal order. It list the person name, county he died in, date of
death and file #, then you could order his certificate of death. If you
don't find him listed under "CLICK", try other spellings of the name, as
well as mis-spelling. I know because I can't find my Adam STAFFORD and
now I am going to have to look thru all the "S's". They also have
mis-spelled "Cyrus" STARRETT. They spelled it "Syrus".
There is a Historical Society in Klamath Falls. Also, you might
consider taking a drive over to Jacksonville, near Medford, OR. They
have a large Historical Society, etc.
Check out Klamath Co. and Jackson Co on the USGENWEB, Oregon Web site.
They have all kinds of info and you can also list your surname there.
Hope this helps,
Janet Snyder,
Poulsbo, WA (formerly OR)
Yes I did the research. She is shown as Nancy Moss on the marriage record
in Wilson Co., TN.

Maybe the name of the wife is a clue to a different Mathais B. CLICK? Six
Mathais CLICK's are known, I think. Maybe there is more tham one with the
initial B?
Marcellus Colin CLICK was known as M. C. or Marsh. Even some family didn't
know his name was Marcellus. Marcellus also married a Nancy -- Nancy Jane
WEAVER ca 1860.

I have Nancy Moss as the wife of Mathias B. CLICK also. However, I did not do
any research.
.
My information came from Jean Vaughn Hendricks ((jim(a)edge.net) and I believe
it includes a date.

Hi Click Family,
I'm interested in the information that Sharon and Hank mentioned about
Matthias B. Click being the son of Michael Click. Most researchers believe
that my ancester, John Click, who settled in Alabama was Michael Click's son.
I came to the conclusion that Matthias B. Click was John Click's younger
brother, because of this being documented in early writings about Tuscaloosa
Co, AL where they both lived ca. 1820. Other researchers believe that
Matthias B. Click was John Click's son. Would be interested in information
that you have documenting Matthias B. Click as Michael Click's son and about
him coming "out of the mountains" to Libertyville, TN. Is that in Wilson Co.,
TN ., where he got married?
Also, the information that I have shows that Matthias B. Click married Nancy
(rather than Martha) Jane Moss. Nancy is her name in all the census records I
have seen.
Thanks for the comments ...
Joan
