LISTOWNER INFORMATION:
My name is KEVIN CLICK and I am the owner of this list.
I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as
possible and setting some rules and guidelines.
A little bit of information about me:
I am NOT a full time genealogist; Im an amateur who wanted
to sponsor a list for this surname in order to provide a
common ground to share information and meet distant
relatives.
I am, for the most part, a weekend genealogist. I have a
full time job that keeps me away from the house about
10 hours a day and it may be difficult to monitor the list
closely during the week. I do check my email daily but
sometimes cannot respond for several days.
I am not an authority on this family,..but I am willing to
share the information that I have regarding my line.
Please note that because of privacy issues, I have decided
that I will not give out personal information for those in
my line who are still living.
RULES OF THE LIST
Rules, as hard as it is for me to list them, we must have
rules. Only I, the listowner, can set rules and
guidelines. It is the power given to me by the sponsor of
this page: ROOTSWEB. If you have suggestions or comments
about the list, please email me DIRECTLYNOT THE LIST. I
want the list discussions to be as flexible as possible so
that we can all enjoy it and benefit from it. But, I have
set the following DOs and DONTs:
DO SHARE INFORMATION: This list is for the discussion of
any genealogical information pertaining to the CLICK family
and related surnames. It is an open discussion for the
origins, migrations, and vital information of the CLICKs.
I recognize that other information not necessarily relating
to the CLICK family may be of value but please limit it to
genealogical information (no virus alerts, no chain letters)
and use discretion when posting general genealogical
information.
DONT FLIRT WITH SPAM: If you are a genealogist and have
works that you want to share or make available, please do
not use the list as a means of ADVERTISEMENT for your wares.
Of course, feel free to share any SPECIFIC information from
your CLICK family research. If anyone from the list wishes
to inquire about your products, they will contact you. AND,
if you have a website, please contact me regarding listing
your site as a tagline to the listif the information is
pertinent to this surname list.
DO PARTICIPATE: I encourage full participation of all
subscribers to this listas full as your occupation, family,
and social lives will allow. As a start, post your direct
line to the list (keep it shortnames only). By doing this
exercise, you may find new cousins from your first post.
I encourage you to post your direct line every three to
four months for the newcomers to the list.
DONT OVERWHELM: Please do not send file attachments or
your entire databases to the list. If you would like to
share your gedcom/database information with the list, send
an email to the list making the information available.
Those subscribers who want more information can have you
send it to them via their private email address. This does
not mean that you cannot cut and paste portions of your
database to the list in smaller messages over time; sharing
of information is, after all, one of the purposes of the
list. The concern here is that email of more than a few
pages long will most likely not be read all the way through
if it wasnt requested.
DO HAVE FUN; life is too short to be so serious: If youve
made it this far in this WELCOME message, send me an email
at kclick(a)earthlink.net with the subject GET IT, GOT IT,
GOOD and then read on, youre almost done!!!!
DONT ANTAGONIZE: PLEASE,..NO FLAME WARS,..NO CHOOSING
SIDES,..NO NAME CALLING OR INSINUATING THAT SOMEONE ELSE
IS NOT AS INTELLIGENT AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO BE.
DO ENCOURAGE EACH ANOTHER: Lets all get along. This list
is an unique gathering of individualsall with a common
goal. If you have a disagreement with someone for any
reason, take it up with the person privately and not on the
list. Were here to learn from each other and, once we
find that common ancestor, were all cousins.
Thanks for joining the list and good luck in your research.

Hi Jean,
Nice to hear from a cousin. I am descended from Henry Cleek (b. 1781-3
in Wash Co. d. 1812-20 in Sullivan Co.TN) He was probably a son of Mathais
Sr. allthough there is not a lot of proof. He m. Mary Akard (b. 1776, d.
1860 in Scott Co. VA) Jacob Akard was one of the earliest settlers of
Hawkins Co. My Gfather Henry Andrew Cleek (b. 1833 Sullivan Co. TN) was an
early settler in OR. and twice crossed the plains. Glad to share info.

I know, I know. The reason for the test was because I sent several
messages out and got no answer. The message to you was "would you have your
Uncle J.D. or someone let me know how he is". I havn't heard from him in a
long time. He is the last word on TN Cleeks and I have missed hearing from

Hello Everyone,
I have now returned from my trip to PA. However, I did not get to
Harrisburg. We spent two days in the Carnegie in Pittsburgh. So I really
didn't find out anything more about the Cleeks/Clicks.
However, in an old Automated Archives CD #136 "Pre-1790 Colonial America
Census Index", I did find a Baldos Click in 1732 in Philadelphia. However,
I am not convinced that this is our "Baltas". For one thing, this is the
year he died (according to Geo. W. Cleek), so it is possible that the
'wife' or whomever the children were living with, just showed Baldos on the
tax list for the family members. Also, since there is no complete record
of those on the ship, it is possible that this is our Baldas' father. We
may never know the answer to this.
I also found the following on the tax lists of various years:
George Peter Glick 1749 Philadelphia, PA
Johan Philip Glick 1754 Philadelphia, PA
Johannes Glick 1754 Philadelphia (also in 1764)
Peter Gluck 1748 Philadelphia, PA
Conrad Gluck 1749 Philadelphia, PA
John Click - 1774 Dunmore Co., VA
John Click - 1783 Shenandoah Co., VA
John Click, Jr. - 1783 Shenandoah Co., VA
I was fortunate enough to find the 1790 PA and NC censuses published in
1908 by the Government Printing Office. (this is a book copy of each that
I found in a bookstore in VA.) In the PA 1790 census is listed:
Dauphin Co., PA
John Cleek 1-0-1
Ludwic Click 1-3-2
In NC 1790 Census is:
Nicholas Click 1-4-4
(the numbers represent males over 16; males under 16; all females and are
all listed as free white).
That's all I have for now. Hope this helps someone.

The Click traits I've read so far have been interesting. I'll add a few
of my recollections.
First of all, a number of the men lost hair early in life. However, my
recollections of Click gatherings (my grandmother's family) is that some
had hair and some didn't. One young cousin of my mother's had to carry
his birth certificate when playing high school football because he lost
his hair so early in life.
Secondly, I recall big booming voices. They ALL liked to talk!
Thirdly, I thought a number of them were tall, but I was pretty short
then! Looking back, I think they were fairly average. However, I don't
recall anyone mentioning any really, really tall persons.
Fourthly, I just received the message from Kevin about diabetes being
prevalent in his line. My grandmother developed non insulin dependent
diabetes at a later age. My daughter is insulin dependent diabetic and
we've never really known "how come?" Maybe this is a partial
explanation.

Well,..I guess the short genes may not have come from the Click side...
Diabetes is prevalent in my line,..also heart desease.
We are with out a doubt cousins.
I have your line down to Creed. I didn't know his middle name was Mathias
though, nor the dates you gave me or descendants. I will add them to the
database when I get there.
It seems "Mathias" is a family name handed down through out the generations.
Has anyone seen other names that seem to appear in each generation?

I'm new to this group. My line is from John Glick Sr who died in 1814 in
Shen Co, VA, married four times. I have the Joseph Glick Family Scrapbook by
Esther Irvine and will do a reasonable check from this ref for anyone so
inclined. Joseph moved to Holt Co, MO, but some of the line stayed in VA.
There's help in the book for many of the collateral lines which intermarried
with Glicks. These were Mennonite, Brethren families, a few Lutherans. All
basic German names.

The only Click descendant male I know about was a William (Bill) Mahan,
my grandfather. He was about 5'8 I think (hard to say since I was 3
feet tall when he was alive!). I'm basing my estimate on pictures. He
had a full head of hair when he died and was fair-skinned and
fair-haired.
