The four major credit bureaus in the USA will be allowed to release your credit
info to anyone who requests it starting July 1, 2003, including mailing
addresses, phone numbers, etc.
To opt out of this release of your information, you must call 1-888-567-8688. It
only takes a couple of minutes - I just did it and it was relatively painless,
but follow these instructions:
Once the recorded message starts, choose option #2 (even though option #1 refers
to this E-mail), and then choose option #3.
Be sure to listen closely. The first option is only for a two year period. Make
sure you wait until prompted for the 3rd option, which opts you out forever.
This will cover all four credit bureaus. This should help to prevent being put
on so many junk mailing lists.
