Yes, I would love to have a copy of the marriage bond. John Clevenger is my
husband's G-Great Grandfather. John's son Lewis died 1910 in WV but his
wife Mary Jane Colley came out to Washington with the rest of the families
about 1912. Lewis's son Thomas is my husband's grandfather who stayed in
Morton WA the rest of his life. Have you read the book "Clevenger Pioneers
& Descendants" by George R. Griffiths?

Hi Dianna, have John's and Polly's marriage bond, a copy that is. I was
told the difference in spelling of thew name was becauce of a family fued.
Someone got ticked off and decided to spell it Clevinger. That was how my
Grandfather spelled his last name. Let me know if you would like a copy of
the mariage bond, Cathy Rowland

I do have a Squire Hamilton Hemp Clevinger in my data base. Parents are
John Clevenger and Mary Polly Stiltner. Born 03 Dec 1848 in Tazewell,
Virgina and died 25 Feb 1912. I have learned that some of the Clevenger's
either spelled their names with an I, or they were just entered incorrectly
by census takers or on other documents. If this is the same Squire
Clevenger you are looking for I would be happy to share with you. I don't
have a lot on his family but he is a brother to the line I am working on.

Abraham Clevenger, who married Emma Best c. 1847, was killed in 1896 on his farm. His team ran away with a load of wood; the boom pole broke, hit him in the head, and knocked him off a bridge that passed over a runway between two fields. There were hogs in there and "Aunt Emma" had to fight the hogs off his body with a pitch fork for three hours until the kids got home from school and got help. (According to a relative, Raymond A. Clevenger in 1951.
